The Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve 2021 is a blend of many different rums, which I do not want to list here. The basis is the Black Tot 50th Anniversary. A starting point of the Master Blender was probably to incorporate Australian rum into the blend. Overall, the base is now more Trinidad TDL Rum and less the heavy Demerara Rums, as in the predecessor. The rum is bottled again without additives or filtration with 54.5% alcohol. The bottle is very similar to the 50th Anniversary. It is limited to 6000 bottles.

The rum is actually not comparable to the 50th Anniversary. It was rather heavy in the nose. The 2021 looks lighter here. I get esters and fermented overripe fruits. I get roasted banana and a fine seasoning. There are also dark aromas to be found, but the ester is clearly the pusher here. On the palate, the rum is direct but not aggressive. A beautiful spice pairs with chocolate and roasted tropical fruits. Liquorice and banana resonate. At the end comes more barrel influence. Wood and more bitter substances. Nutmeg and a slight sweetness accompany the bitter substances in the finish.

The Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve 2021 is a great high-quality rum that has a lot to offer. Only the nose I found a bit disappointing. But at the palate comes a great taste explosion, which is well balanced. I wouldn't compare the rum directly to the 50th Anniversary. A new rum was created here. Lighter, spicier and more accessible. But that's good, since it is no simple copy of the 50th Anniversary.

On the nose: molasses, baking spices (especially cinnamon), and a little banana. On the palate is spicy and complex. Smooth despite the higher proof.

Tasted 9/1/21 at Laka Lono, midway through an epic tasting Sunday.
This is a complicated, peaty rum. I was advised by Cat the Bartender to try it as a Daq with a bit on the side, which was likely a wise choice because there is a lot going on here.
My notes clearly state, in quotation marks - "you'll never forget it!"
Perhaps I should hunt down a bottle for the home bar?
8/10
Edit: Also tasted 7/31/22 at Laka Lono
From the notes: Black Tot Day! This rum is hot! In a good way. I think this should be served with roasted pineapple and soft serve ice cream.
5/5 but I am wary of the enthusiasm of the five point scale so will retain the 8/10 rating

I enjoyed the Black Tot 50th Anniversary Rum. I like it more than the original Royal Navy rum, so I thought I'd give this a try as well, as it came out just a year later and has a similar looking label, they're both 54.5% and both have a mix of 9 different rums. Sipped it neat.

I slightly prefer the 50th Anniversary Rum.

Smells and tastes of molasses, oak, spice, licorice, charred sugar, and whiskey that I didn't sense quite as much in the 50th Anniversary Rum. I think that's why I slightly prefer that one, as I'm not a huge fan of whiskey aging.

This is still a nice rum, but I'd go with the 50th Anniversary if you can find it.

Similar to Black Tot 50th Anniversary edition but with little difference. I prefer that one more so this one is at 9. I did not have chance compare it side by side (previous bottle is gone :) if I have chance, I will try to describe. Maybe a bit more technical. However esters are so strong. Anyway regarding the taste and smell, it is both very suitable to me.

Nádherná směs vůní: estery, koření, špinavost...
Chuť: Skvělý blend, spojitá všehochuť, Guyana, Jamajka, Trinidad, Barbados, Austrálie?!
Umělecké dílo.
Dochuť: Jemná, sladká, dřevitá...hraje.
Co dodat?
9,4/10
