Quite a nice rum, really has 2 profiles for me.
Neat, not quite my drink, woody with a short bite and a burn, no real flavour profile.
On the rocks, whole new rum, with a block of ice and let it mellow it opens up the flavour.
Becomes a woody smokey mellow rum with a nice tail that leaves a smooth taste in your mouth. You can just sip the whole bottle.
Rated only a 7 though as it is far from amazing. The price is the problem. It is super expensive and you can get 2 bottles of something really good for the same price.
Worth it to try, especially if you like XO rums which I do.
Pours a perfect dark copper color. Big brown sugar aroma. This is liquid brown sugar! Loads of dark brown sugar and molasses flavors, very smooth. Wish it was stronger than 80%. Absolutely delicious.

End of a bottle that has been opened for several years.

For zacapa 23 lovers, for me it is a rum that is easy to drink, light enough to start your evening. XO which is 25, has more body into it, so a nice continuation of the party. Recommend to those who find 23 too fruity or sweet.
An even beter version of one of my favorite runs. Smoother, tastier and joyful to nose and tongue.
Good price for a rum with a pleasant smell and taste. Rather mild, slightly sweet. You can drink without additives.
Its a great rum. My first experience was in Guatemala & it was divine. Found it here & bought one...worth the money! So smooth.
A beautiful bottle, a beautiful presentation, but not so much.
With this one, It is very easy to get freinds over for a sip, it has some woody notes, ripe fruit, spices, bitter cocoa and hints of almond and vanilla and not the least the look of the bottle is impressive
Beautiful amber colour. Not too much alcohol on the nose, but lots of ripe fruit and and sweet dates. On the tongue it has an oakiness that reminds me of brandy. Some marzipan. Ripe fruit remains. Rich flavour. A bit too much alcohol on the tongue though, which I find dries it a little. Although it is very smooth without much burn going down. Those who do not like sweeter rums may find it a little too sweet, but think it strikes a nice balance. It isn't cheap. But it comes closer to matching its cost than other premiums I have tried. Worth a try if you have not.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A blend of rums aged up to 25 years from Guatemala, ABV 40%. The rums were aged in bourbon, sherry and finally cognac casks.
Bottle: Luxurious drop shaped with gold cap, comes in a nice box.
Colour: Dark amber
Nose: Smooth and pleasant with no pungent alcoholic odour. The aroma of caramel, honey, ripe cherries, dark chocolate, raisins, wood and smoke was identified.
Flavour: At first sharper, then mellower and sweeter. There were a lot of cognac, mon cherry, caramel and honey on the palate.
Finish: Medium-long, turning bittersweet.
Conclusion: The Zacapa XO is slightly woodier and less sweet than the Solera 23, but is overall more complex. Personally, I would reach for a bottle of XO.
