Received as a gift. Looked good in the box, nice bottle with a dark colour rum. On opening the bottle there is a sherry scent. Taste is a little spicy and fruity but without any punch or length of flavour. Not a rum I will buy again.

Not much to it. Lacks flavor profile. Nothing that really sticks out as special. For an over $100 per bottle, would go another route every time. Not a good look for Zacapa.

A blend of rums aged up to 25 years from Guatemala, ABV 40%. The rums were aged in bourbon, sherry and finally cognac casks.

Bottle: Luxurious drop shaped with gold cap, comes in a nice box.

Colour: Dark amber

Nose: Smooth and pleasant with no pungent alcoholic odour. The aroma of caramel, honey, ripe cherries, dark chocolate, raisins, wood and smoke was identified.

Flavour: At first sharper, then mellower and sweeter. There were a lot of cognac, mon cherry, caramel and honey on the palate.

Finish: Medium-long, turning bittersweet.

Conclusion: The Zacapa XO is slightly woodier and less sweet than the Solera 23, but is overall more complex. Personally, I would reach for a bottle of XO.

Overall rating: 9/10

My latest addition to the top shelf. I mean, it's all sugar, but I'm not even a little mad about it. Top marks.

I love this. Very clean-tasting vanilla cocoa in deep tones.

Comes in a nice travel box.
I like the shape of the botle which makes it look a bit exclusive.

One of the beter rums I have in my possesion.

Sweet taste, with not much afterburn in the end. Very balanced blend!

It's just a pleasant drink. Smooth and sweet, very easy to drink, yet for me not that interesting flavour in context of some its competitors. It's still very high quality though and I do drink it and enjoy it for a change, once in a blue moon.

Per me il miglior mai assaggiato. nettare puro. Da provare almeno una volta.
