As usual, another excellent rum by Foursquare.

On the nose I found brown sugar, some tropical fruit (maybe mango??), citrus, caramel, and maybe some raisins.

On the palate it was sweet, with molasses, cola vanilla and a nice heat. The finish was looooong, with a mild oak and tobacco.

Excellent, but not quite as good as the 2008 in my opinion.

2008 is so far my favourite. 2009 got some glueish tones, funky burn and rather short tail.

Exceptional Cask Mark XVII
Rum zrál 12 let v sudech po bourbonu.
Vyrobeno bylo 30 000 lahví.

Aroma: Vanilka, bourbonovitost, mango, kokos. Ovocnější i ostřejší než 2008.
Chuť: Nasládlá, ovocná, štiplavé dřevo. Sladší než 2008.
Dozvuk: Vanilka, lehce dřevíčko, bourbonovitost, lehce tropické ovoce. Pálivý, dlouhý.
Sladkost: 0/3
Ochutnán vzorek
V porovnání s FQ 2008 působí ovocněji a intenzivněji. Nicméně i tak jsou rozdíly opravdu minimální a FQ 2009 je další vynikající ročníkovka.

This has all of the trademark Foursquare flavors, but it's a little sweeter than usually seen in these dated ECS releases. Though it favors sippability, there seems to be some loss of depth with this added sweeteness. Not quite as much cocoa and oak as the 2008. I'm splitting hairs here, dont get me wrong, this is an exceptional rum.

Udgivet i April 2021.

En ganske god og traditionel Barbados rom. Men den imponere ikke voldsomt.

barva žlutonahnědlá
- vůně parádní, jemná, typický Foursquare, ovoce
- chuť vyladěnější 2008, jemnější, ovocná, koření, pepřová
Závěr ovocný, pepř

Finally got my bottles of 2009 ordered in July. Seems like the concierge group at Total wine are last to get Foursquare at least on the space coast of Florida. A fair amount of alcohol on initial nose, first sip very heavy bourbon undertones with long lasting finish, mild burn. Having hard time placing this rating having sampled 20 Foursquare ECS, and private releases. Not as much flavor as Detente that is very well rounded and complex. Does pack a manly punch, I’m thinking an after dark rum for sure. I’m going to start with an 8 and revisit in the evening. Definably in the 8-9 range for me.

Reall good successor of FSQ2008. But after tasting multiple representations, this one is close but still little behind it's precedisor. Still very enjoyable and for recommendation. On nose, taste, after taste all is same like for 2008. Soo smooth. Only difference I find is a bit kick in the end.

Sampled FS2009 side by side with FS2008. Of course this rum is exceptional, however sampling it next to FS2008 is a disadvantage. Exceptional quality but not as good as the 2008. Sampled again last night and while it is a pretty good rum it is not a “10”, I would rather rate it 8.5 so 8 for this scale.

I think I like the smell best about this. Rich and complex mix of brown sugar, solvent and oak; layered, potent and inviting.

Dipping my nose in the glass, I'm hit with a powerful yet balanced and delicious mix of alcohol and solvent, then the many layered brown sugar, and what I imagine is cognac, arrives.

Taste, initially is all that. Very similar to Doorlys 12 in flavour, but much less sweet, and the brown sugar comes in many layered complexity. Then I swallow and a huge, pretty brutal, burn kicks in, followed finally by the oaky dryness and lip snacking numbness. The finish is long, and dry, with a whiff of brown sugar.

Overall, I love the depth and complexity, but not so much the burn.

Edit. After being given a second bottle, after a couple of months gap, I'm reappraising this. I've learned to take much smaller sips, and really take the time with it. I also had the chance to benchmark it against my previous favourite - Hampden 8YO. Compared to that, the ECS is just richer and deeper. If the Hampden is an 8, the this needs to be my first 9. Now I just need to get a bottle of Hampden Overproof, and compare that!
