My go-to for a good Cuba Libre. Lovely on its own with ice too.

In a blind taste test with friend this beat Abuelo XV Sherry Cask, Zacapa 23, Diplomรกtico Reserva and Flor De Cana 12. Prior to the blind test and knowing the price it was considered the worst by the same audinece. Just shows the price influences perception. It's surprisingly good and amazing value.

I feel like many of the rums of Appleton have been growing more toned down over the years. The main line (Reserve and increasing age-statement) rums have all been getting lighter. This one is also rather light, though still in line with Jamaican quality.

There is an earthy hogo but just a whisper of tropical fruit. The mouthfeel is nice, and there's a caramel taste of toasted oak. Not really any harshness to speak of, overall a nice rum for casual mixing.

The Pros.
Great value for the money, nothing wrong with this Rum at all.
Perfectly sweet, very smooth and with the right amount of burn.

The Cons.
No real depth of favours, and for a Jamaican Rum, hardly any Hogo "funk", but still a very pleasant taste.

Light gold colour, sweet taste, quite thin, not harsh. Very very reasonably priced here in London, and a fine mixer for a rum and coke

Simple, but has Jamaica's funky soul. Easy on nose and pretty smooth. Wish to get it by 43ยฐ.

Score 6.5

Light amber in colour with the signature Appleton/Jamaican funk. It mixes great with coke or in a rum punch. My new go to mixer. $29 CAD @ LCBO.

Tasted at Archipelago DC on 5/18/23. Gold in color. Funk aroma with a big blast of honey. Chalky and bitter palate. More stick candy than honey to the taste. Burning finish.

Distinctively funky without being overbearing. Punches well above it's weight.

Picked up a bottle while in Jamaica. The locals said it was the replacement for the Special Gold.
It's cheap and makes a good mixer. Very similar to its predecessor but slightly dryer from what I remember.
