Capital Rum 5 out of 10
From the website: "Did you know that in Canada to call something Rum it must be aged for a year? Well we didn't want to wait a year, so we're introducing Tall Grass Rhumb! This refreshing spirit is distilled from blackstrap molasses. The result is a sweet and delicious 'rhumb' made in Winnipeg that you would swear came from the beaches of Cuba. Tall Grass White Rhumb perfect for sipping on the rocks or enjoying in your favourite cocktail (grab some cola and go nuts!)."
I'm new to rum, and my philosophy is that if I'm going to drink, I'm not going to water it down by mixing it, so I want to drink my rum neat.
I've gone through the usual "buy what's cheap", and must admit that I've picked up a few bottles of stuff that has to be tossed into the diet Dr Pepper because of this. This was on sale for $32 and it's made locally, so I thought why not.
First off there's no added sugar (I appreciate seeing sugar content in reviews). It has a bit of burn, but I find it to be pretty smooth and almost thick, if that's a thing. The taste and body is better than any of the economy rums I've tried so far. I don't know much about flavour profiles, sorry.
I've already picked up another bottle, as I think this one will be a staple. Can't say that for anything else just yet.
I don't know whether this is available outside of Manitoba, so this might not be a valuable review..
Edit - After trying a few aged rums I have to knock this down a few points. It's really more of a molasses based vodka than a rum - unaged and with that boozy alcohol character. It's ok, but I wouldn't pay more than the discounted price of $32 that it was.
