This Nine Leave bottled by the independent bottler Spirit of Rum for the rum club is one of the oldest distillates of Yoshiharu Takeuchi and was stored after 5 years in Japan again 2 years in an Armagnac barrel. The rum was bottled in cask strength with 59.8% alcohol without dyes, sugar or filtration. I have the bottles 28 and 32 of 228 pieces. Yoshiharu Takeuchi does not use sugar cane juice or molasses but the brown sugar of the island Tarama.

And in the nose it immediately shows that it is not an ordinary rum. Intensely and almost pungent, the aromas come out of the glass. The rum takes time. The rum is strongly reminiscent of a fruit brandy. I get a very fruity nose with grape and apple. I have spice and a fine sweetness. Everything looks lively and angular. Absolutely intense. Something completely new awaits me on the palate. No rum tastes like that. The Akohol is aggressive but still in the frame. The rum has spice, pepper, lots of wood and tannins. But also a little sweetness with dried fruits. The finish is earthy and salty. More tannins come through and it's astringent.

Wow. You have to like that or, like me, learn to drink and understand it again and again over some weeks. Then the Nine Leaves has a lot to offer. It tastes very different, but the only thing what bothers me is that the alcohol is present in taste and it smells some like a Obstler.

Absolut intensiv. Am Gaumen erwartet mich etwas völlig Neues. Kein Rum schmeckt so.
