The Velier Hampden <>H from 2016 was allowed to store in Bourbon barrels in Jamaica for 5 years and was then bottled in cask strength of 62% alcohol. The pot style rum belongs to the High Ester Rums and has remarkable 800-1000 gr/hlpa. Furthermore, congeners are given with a proud 2472.1 gr/hlpa.

The rum should be given time to breathe after pouring, because what the rum gives off in terms of aromas is intense and those who try this rum should have some experience with Ester Rums. The Nose has a lot of glue and sweet very overripe fruit like banana and pineapple. The barrel is actually hardly present here and only noticeable by some sweet vanilla. Nosing is a lot of fun here.

On the palate, the rum remains extreme. Clear intense ester notes are immediately noticeable. Glue and overripe fruit is captured by a slight sweetness. The rum is aggressive and should be drunk very carefully. Bitter substances and some wood are now added. The Ester notes remain very present for an extremely long time.

Wow. My first Hampden high ester rum and I like to drink this rum in combination with the LFCH, which has much more sweetness and barrel influence and therefore seems a bit more complex and adult. For me, the <>H is a great rum for learning and an absolute high light. One drop makes any average rum exciting and therefore also very suitable for blending. Because of the missing complexity only a 9.5. Not a everyday rum for sure. This is where the LFCH is superior. I love Hampden. 👌

Kein Alltagsrum. Hier ist der LFCH tatsächlich überlegen. Ich liebe Hampden. 👌

Let's try this young Hampden from HV that was hard to get.
I think most speculators are sitting on their bottles for now because I haven't seen a single bottle that would have sold for 200.

Smell: Reminds me of the 2007 Kill Devil 10y. I perceive a lot of glue, pineapple, honey sweetness. Almost sticky sweet, sweet vanilla pudding and apple I would name. Barrel influence barely noticeable, possibly slightly light wood. Overall not complex.

Taste: Sweet, quite soft start. With glue and ripe pineapple, minimal bitter substances are noticeable. The sharpness increases slowly but to a very high level. The sweetness slowly diminishes, the pineapple also takes a back seat. A little malt and wood are added, more glue and bitter substances develop.
Acid is retained and hardly plays a role here.
Very slightly fresh wood and fresh, green pineapple with little sweetness remain on the palate.
The finish is spicy at first, but the spiciness melts and aromas of glue, apple and pineapple remain.

Aftertaste: pineapple, apple, glue

Conclusion: A good Hampden but not kompex. Quite sweet and bright. I doubt whether it was correctly priced in at 130 euros. I would have preferred the bottle of Kill Devil 2007 for 70 euros. I still recommend the 6y HV Hampden LROK for around 85 Euro.
At the current price of 200 euros, I would definitely not buy it. Let the speculators have fun.

Overall rating: 87 points

Sweetness: 3/5
Fruit: 4/5
Sharpness: 4.5 / 5
Complexity: 3/5
PL 130 €: 2.5 / 5

Ve vůni květiny, estery, ovoce. Chuť výborná má správný riz i díky super voltazi. Estery a ovoce v rovnováze. Závěr krásne plný a dlouhy

Tried a bottle of this with a few rum lover friends and had the consensus of it being amazing across the board. The lovely nose and palate of overriped banana, slices of fresh pineapple, marzipan and thick orange juice with tinges of almond flakes really takes over the olfactory and gustatory senses. A definite must try and highly recommended!

UPDATE: Gone through the bottle and had to change from a 9 to 10. The progression was fantastic!
