I've not tried the previous ED12, so I can't compare. The added sugar put me off before, but the prospect of tasting something of DDLs unique stills really intrigued me, now most of the added sugar is no longer there.

Smell and taste is layers of sugar, but whereas Doorlys 12 is soft brown sugar, this is something darker and richer, and maybe slightly dirty. There's also a subtle backdrop of wood, and something smoky, maybe charred wood or burnt sugar.

The finish is where the dry, astringent wood comes to the fore, and really lingers, along with a hint of dried fruit.

The overall impression is more varied than the Doorlys, and much less sweet. It's well integrated, and always interesting, without being complex. At this price point, I'd say it's the best bang for buck I've yet come across.

More complexity and definitely a better sipper than the previous 12 year expression.
Caramel and toffee notes are present.

Without so much sugar, this new version really lets the production shine through.
We get more fruit and smoke, plus that lovely dry oaky finish.
Glad that the new GI regulations seem to be improving quality!

God klassisk Guyana rom, med en lidt bitter eftersmag. Meget tæt på et 8 tal.

Had 6cl of it after a better dinner at a local restaurant.
It’s long time ago since I tasted the old 12yo with 35gpl sugar, but I’m pretty sure I like this new one with 6gpl sugar better.
The aroma is oaky, spicy, pleasant and balanced with some sweetness.
In mouth and on palate it’s still spicy and I recognize toffee, raisins, prunes, caramel and nutmeg.
The finish is medium long and the wood comes back plus some vanilla.
Overall an pleasant well balanced rum with a certain complexity.

this is the new 2020 edition of the el dorado 12 yo with much less sugar added (approx. 6g/lit.) to meet the new EU regulations. and i guess it‘s now better then it was before, it‘s one of my favourite ones and it‘s a no brainer as it‘s quite cheap. really nice and smooth rum

Seriously a fantastic rum for the price. This is a sipper that is a great mixer for the price. Huge value with this rum - can't go wrong.

Lets say you have a friend that does not necessarily enjoy rum. This is a perfect gift. Inexpensive and perfect beginner rum.
You wont feel bad if it gets mixed, and its delicious on its own.
Worst case, your friend does not use it and that way, when you visit, you know he/she has this bottle on standby for you! So i spread these babies around!

I put a 10 up there because of the cost vs value factor. The average score of 7.5 is too low. This should be a solid 8.0 based on taste alone and not cost.
