I am not an experienced rum drinker. The man in the liquor store could highly recommend the Eldorado. I had no expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. Rounder, sweeter and less sharp than what I'm used to from whiskey, for example. I will definitely try more rums in the future.

Not sure what the fuss is about, tried it multiple times as a sipping as well as with mixer, but couldn't find anything good about it.

Exceptionally smooth mouth and throat feel with a nice warming finish. Not tons of complexity, but carmel, raisin, and oak come through nicely for me. Perfect sweetness throughout. A good go-to neat sipper.

I tried this rum in a trendy fusion restaurant in Las Vegas. I remember thinking how smooth it was for rum from the French part of the Carribean - which I often find a little harsh and light bodied for my taste.

When I returned home, I was delighted to find this rum in one of my local stores and brought home a bottle. When I tried it at home, it had that familiar light body and lack of smoothness I identify with "rhums". As I pondered, I remembered that the glass in Las Vegas came after a glass of tequila...

So, all in all, pretty good flavor, not that smooth and flavors not so complex, unless you have a glass of tequila first.

woody rum and almost nothing else, i give a nice 5, better than the older version (it was a 3)
from the 3 new el dorados (12,15 and 21) only the 15 is a solid sipper ...

Compared to the previous El Dorado 12 this is phenomenal. I was kind of concerned that with very little added sugar it might have lost what I loved in this fine rum but it's even better. I give this a solid 8, and in its price range a 10. Pick up a bottle if you haven't tried it.

I've not tried the previous ED12, so I can't compare. The added sugar put me off before, but the prospect of tasting something of DDLs unique stills really intrigued me, now most of the added sugar is no longer there.

Smell and taste is layers of sugar, but whereas Doorlys 12 is soft brown sugar, this is something darker and richer, and maybe slightly dirty. There's also a subtle backdrop of wood, and something smoky, maybe charred wood or burnt sugar.

The finish is where the dry, astringent wood comes to the fore, and really lingers, along with a hint of dried fruit.

The overall impression is more varied than the Doorlys, and much less sweet. It's well integrated, and always interesting, without being complex. At this price point, I'd say it's the best bang for buck I've yet come across.

It's brilliant to see El Dorado abandoning the sugar dosing . This is apparently very low when tested with hydrometer...
