This is not really better than Havana Club 7 but it has an entirely different taste profile. While it can indeed be described as "smoky"....l find it is a little thin with a more alcohol aftertaste than Havana Cub 7.....but still decent on the rocks.
This rum spent time ageing in Islay whisky casks giving it a light smokey nose and flavour. It has a sweetness, toasted oak, spice, vanilla and chocolate notes with a mild burn. It has a spicey medium finish that was better with a single cube. Makes a good rum and Coke but not my favourite. $43 Can at LCBO
It looks like a Havana Club, smells like a Havana Club, but there's something extra on the nose... Smoke. Not quite a peaty smoke, but definitely smoky. I like it! 😃
On the tongue... It's a smoky Havana Club. It's crazy to narrow it down like that, but that's exactly what it seems like. The smoke isn't overpowering, which is nice. It's a subtle addition.
Little lingering smoke aftertaste...
This is interesting. It's drinkable neat, but I think it needs a mix.
I need to find the right mix for it 🙂 🥃
Pretty damn good for the price. Its not overly smokey like the Zacapa Negro but still manages to be smooth with oak notes and no loss of sweetness. Also you cant beat the price. I recommend it to all those who live in countries who allow imports of cuban goods as opposed to those that boycott them because they nationalized over 60yrs ago leaving the bacardi rum company complaining to this day.

Surprise 8 out of 10
I went to the store to buy bottle of Scotch. I've already tried Lagavulin and Bruichladdich, then I wanted another one from Islay. By the way, checked the rum shelf and was surprised ... how small is world )
Welcome the Havana Club Cuban Smoky: rum parts aged in smoky Islay whisky casks.
On my receptors this is old lovely 7yo with some of peat, malt, sea air notes. A bit too watery for the dark smoky rum, but tastes new and great.
Good job Havana Club!
P.s. I cannot be unprejudiced, had Bunnahabhain before that )
