Bellamy's Reserve Rye Cask Finish 12-Year

The Bellamy's Reserve Rye Cask Finish is a 12-years old blend from Barbados, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. It was stored for another 8 months in Rye whisky barrels. With 12.3g/l of sugar added It was bottled with 45% alcohol.

The Jamaican dominates in the nose. Fruit, some ester. But also vanilla and oak notes. Barbados resonates. DR is not there to me. The rum is pleasing on the palate but the 45% are noticeable and some burn is on the tongue. Sweet fruit notes such as banana and coconut are recognizable. Vanilla and light wood notes resonate. It is pleasantly sweet. The finish is not to long and has a certain spice.

What bothers me is that the finish is not recognizable enough here. The rum is solid but not particularly exciting. The idea has potential and the mix is good. The Jamaican Part of the Blend saves this rum. But the added sugar is a pity. At least the bottler makes it transparent. A 6.5- 7.

Der Bellamy's Reserve Rye Cask Finish ist ein 12 Jahre gelagerter Blend aus Barbados, Jamaika und der Dominikanischen Republik. Er wurde noch einmal 8 Monate in Rye Whisky Fässern nach gelagert. Im wurden 12,3g/l Zucker hinzugefügt und dann mit 45% Alkohol abgefüllt.

In der Nase überwiegt der Jamaikaner. Frucht, etwas Ester. Aber auch Vanille und Eichen Noten. Barbados schwingt mit. DR ist für mich eher unauffällig. Am Gaumen ist der Rum gefällig. Die 45% sind merkbar und brennen etwas auf der Zunge. Süße Fruchtnote wie Banane und Kokosnuss sind erkennbar. Vanille und auch leichte Holznoten schwingen mit. Er ist angenehm süß. Der Abgang ist kurz bis mittellang und hat eine gewisse Würze.

Was mich stört ist, dass das Finish hier nicht erkennbar genug. Der Rum ist solide aber nicht besonders spannend. Die Idee hat Potenzial und die Mischung ist gut. Der jamaikanische Anteil rettet den Rum. Aber das noch Zucker hinzugefügt wurde ist schade und irgendwie überflüssig. Wenigstens transparent, da der Abfüller die Information bereit stellt. Insgesamt 6.5 - 7. Also ma ne 7.

Weird blend without much of an identity. Competent but nothing to be excited about.
