Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star rum

Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star

Puerto Rico | Aged | 40% ABV

Ron del Barrilito 3 Star rum is produced in Bayamón Puerto Rico by the Fernández family, which has been producing rum in the area since 1804, making it the oldest rum manufacturer in Puerto Rico. The rum is first blended and then aged for a minimum of 6 years.

A single barrel of Ron del Barrilito rum was set aside in 1942 called the 'Freedom Barrel.' When Puerto Rico gains its independence the Freedom Barrel will be opened in the Bayamón town square for all to share.

Aroma of almonds, vanilla, wood and bananas. In taste you can find sweet fruits and smoke.

Strong alcohol taste, heavy throat burn. Has some redeeming qualities though.

Florals and some vanilla. I remember loving this when I first tried it like 10 years ago. A little citrus. Maybe some light tobacco. Red amber pour.

Smooth with little afterburn. Can’t put my finger on a single flavor. Could be fine mixed or straight. Not a big fan of the twist top; prefer a cork.

This rum is not for everyone it is a little spicier than your typical dryer rums from Puerto Rico. It takes a little getting use to, but after a few servings you began to enjoy its complexite and taste.

As far as Puerto Rican rums go, this is my favourite.

Bit too light and tobacco-ey in flavor but a decent rum

I typically like rums with a strong profile. This was the exception. It has loads of flavor but one that i didn't particularly enjory. The finish was one of the harshest of the night during the tasting.

Sipped - neat
86 proof, gold Puerto Rico
Nose - strong peat, smoke
In mouth - bold, smoke, peat
Linger - peat persists
Don't believe this is a sipper for me, but might add flavor to a multi rum cocktail such as a Zombie

Tasted at Laka Lono on 2/2/20. Dark reddish gold in color. Deep rich tawney aroma. Buttery. Apple. Peppermint. Brown sugar. Sweetness is muted. I like the 2 star better.
