Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star rum

Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star

Puerto Rico | Aged | 40% ABV

Ron del Barrilito 3 Star rum is produced in Bayamón Puerto Rico by the Fernández family, which has been producing rum in the area since 1804, making it the oldest rum manufacturer in Puerto Rico. The rum is first blended and then aged for a minimum of 6 years.

A single barrel of Ron del Barrilito rum was set aside in 1942 called the 'Freedom Barrel.' When Puerto Rico gains its independence the Freedom Barrel will be opened in the Bayamón town square for all to share.

Tons of oak and fruit flavor up front followed by a very nice sweet mellow that keeps on. I feel like this is an understated rum that definitely needs to be tried.

This may not be the most complex or the most aged rum, but it’s dangerously pleasant to sip. I guess it could be good for cocktails but at least I’m never even going to try. This is my neat daily sipper. Semi-sweet with notes of vanilla, coconut cream and dried figs. Pleasant nose reminds me of flan caramel and cotton candy. Been sipping this for around 15 years and will continue to do so as long as I can find it around.

My first experience with Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star was a few years ago with a couple of bottles bought at Walgreens in San Juan. Happily I can now find it here in the States

I upgraded this to a 7 from a 6. It's been a while since I last had this. Lately I find myself liking sherry cask influenced rums on the dry side where as before not so much so that's where the upgrade comes from. The sherry seems to be perfectly balance with this. Good aroma and slight flavor. The 43% kind of overpowers what this rum could be if it was at 40%. But to me that works because I sip it slower. This is the only PR rum I would ever buy but no frequently. When I'm in the mood for something different this will be in the mix. Especially for $40.

Caramel and subtle wood. Nice body and hides the alcohol well

Why over complicate things? This is simply a very nice rum. Sweetness level not over the top. There are no artificial flavors trying to complete with each other. Nice little kick to it even on ice. Apparently Barrilito was established in 1880. I would like to think that between then and now not much has changed with their formula. Tradition sometimes beats change. Solid rum for sipping.

Undoubtedly a finely aged spirit but, to my palate, the solera sherry nose and palate are overwhelming. To my taste it’s closer to a well-aged solera Andalusian brandy than rum. Just my impression.

I was gifted a bottle of 3 star from a friend returning from Puerto Rico (not hard to find on the mainland per de, but a generous thought nonetheless). Delightfully bright rum with a smooth finish - notes of vanilla, mango, pineapple(?) with caramel. Highly recommended in a daiquiri

Tasted at Laka Lono on 2/2/20. Dark reddish gold in color. Deep rich tawney aroma. Buttery. Apple. Peppermint. Brown sugar. Sweetness is muted. I like the 2 star better.

Bit too light and tobacco-ey in flavor but a decent rum
