I've had this bottle in my collection for about 7 years now. It's number 4281 from the year 2011. Thought I would be treating myself with some delicious stuff today, but I was wrong!!
Way too harsh for me. My first sip felt like drinking whiskey because of the burn. I can imagine some people would love this one, but for me it just doesn't work!

(A week later) OMG What a mistake my first review of this rum!!!! This rum is amazing! I had to get used to it and after pooring it in the glass I took the patience to let it rest for a while. Neat, clean, no ice, just the rum. What I got after being patience was a rum worth drinkibg with love. Good stuff!!!!

Up until recently diplomatico has been one of my favourites with Santa Teresa being right up there too. Now that I've tasted this simply splendid Dominican rum I can honestly say it is so smooth, so well-balanced, with just the right amount of sugar, fruit flavour, caramel, that it's simply one of the finest rums that this guy has tasted to date. I will most definitely be making another trip to the Dominican republic if only to secure one, maybe two more bottles of this sweet nectar. If you get the opportunity do not deny yourself, you won't regret it.

From reviews i was expected a mediocre quality rum.. but it is a very nice a real top rum!! Taste is thick & rich, little sweet and well aged in toasted cognac-wine sauternes casks which make it sweeter and milder than whiskey & bourbon aging. I would compare it with El Dorado 21 but this one is less acid & softer without disturbing, melts in your mouth and make your tastebuds feel so full & warm (very close to 9)... It is a great choice if you gonna buy something special-premium compared to Zacapa XO, Diplomatico Single Vintage & Millonario XO in my opinion.

I've tried this ron some times ago and wasn't impessed. Of couse I understand the 30 - is not his age but it have quite respectable one whatever. Despite whis, it was not have big difference between regular Imperial alas((

In my opinion this is not worth the $100. The 21 Anniversary was better in flavor. The packaging and presentation is impeccable, but only slightly smoother than regular Imperial. I had two bottles of this one o bought the other was a gift. Can be enjoyed Neat. Keep in mind this is not a 30 year old Rum it celebrates a 30 year anniversary.

It's the logical continuation of the barcelo onyx, more intensive.
Still mild, but with 43% of course heavier. The taste reminds me of brandy because of grape seeds.
The younger Barcelo Imperial is balanced but a little bit watery compared with the 30th.
Because of the higher abv and more maturation it has more intensive aromas.

Nose starts with grape seeds, dry orange peels and some grains. There is wood and black tea in the background. Intensive nose for 43%.
The taste starts like a cognack with black tea, then grape seeds with some bitter notes and orange peels. In the middle I get some sweetness and again grape seeds.
Some wood is also there and at the end the same: orange peels, wood and tannins.

This is a good and intensive taste, there are some other rums that contains this flavors. Orange peels are always a good sign of aged tropical rums. The grape seeds are dominant.
Would rate it with 87 points. It's great and intensive for just 43%

Nose: black tea, grape seeds, orange peels, wood, dry fruits, some pepper
Taste: cold black tea, grape seeds, dry fruits, orange peels
Middle: some tannins, dry fruits, barrel/wood, some tannins
Finish: spice, wood, grape seeds, black tea, dry fruits

Sweetness: 2.5/5
Spice: 2.5/5
Fruit: 3/5
Mildness: 3.5/5
Complexity: 3/5
Value (65€): 4/5

People get confused, the rum title says "30th Anniversary" not "30 years". Created by Miguel Barceló this anniversary blend is aged for 10 years in used American bourbon barrels. The rum is then recasked in Chateau D'Yquem barrels for two years. The rum is 12 years aged, bottled nicely to overcharge you.
