I love rum! Dark, sweet, smooth rum! I really do. And this rum on paper has everything needed to satisfy me, but it really doesnt...

Not a rum for beginners , it can be considered too strong or aggressive for some people because of their strong aromas. Contrary to what many think, is not a 30 years rum , but about 10 years (not much ) , was released to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the Rum Imperial and demands a knowledge on rums to enjoy the same . Perfect companion for good cigars and is the current owner of the title of world's best rum, not easy to find nor cheap , because I think that only produce about 7,000 bottles a year, not sure. It is amazing and totaly worth it!

I think it is a very good rum. Maybe over aged. I don´t believe the aging is actually doing any better here. I would just bottle it earlier and sell it cheaper. Would consider buying again but at a lower price.

Sugar: 16 to 20 GPL. This is not a 30 year old rum. From what I can find out it's a mixture of rums between 10 and 14 years old. I believe this is the best rum that Barcelo produces, and it's the best I have had from the Dominican to date. In the glass it has the aroma of wood, almonds, and honey-caramel. For taste I detect oak, some spices like nutmeg and vanilla, and sweet caramel. It's smooth to drink and has a nice warm finish. The aroma and taste have great potential but it just seems to be lacking in Complexity of taste and the Wow factor you would expect from the price and presentation. I give it an 9.0 for overall taste and a half point for the bottle. It's not a 10 but after a few more taste comparisons it might get pushed up to a 10. It's definitely worth having on your shelf.

Wesentlich besser als der imperial 16 jahre. Nicht so würzig/scharf wie der 16 jährige

I saw this one in Denmark to a heavy price! Went to the border and gave ½ price :) LOVE IT

Not bad, but mostly sweet (caramel). And to be honest, for the (not so sweet) price and high age of this rum I expected a bit more (complexity).

The barcelo imperial was my first proper rum so I just had to get this.

A few people have commented on the bottle/packaging being cool but I think it is poor. The plastic bit in the middle fell off when I first opened it and the (artificial) cork is incredibly difficult to open (just took me literally 5mins to ease off!). I guess the tin is cool but I make a rule of never keeping them to optimise space on my shelf. I got this for about £80 from vinusvinis if I'd paid the £200 some UK websites are advertising it for I wouldn't be happy!

So it's lost a mark for packaging.

Vegetal nose and a bit of sugar but not lots.

Beautiful dark brown colour.

Some sugar but then lots of odd chemicals. Green grass and petrol?

The grass taste lingers for some time. And then an almost pleasant burn.

Just tasted back to back with the imperial and that is much better. Despite being a fraction of the price.

By no means a bad rum. Quite sweet with some oak and roasted nuts. It is really overpriced in Denmark, but you can get it elsewhere for less than 100 Euros, and then the deal is fair. But you can still find more interesting rums around at that price.
