I was actually quite shocked when I tried this, having tried a majority of high end rums this one just didn't do it for me. Way too harsh, just taking a sip felt like a shot of jameson! Aftertaste is not as pleasant and long lasting as other rums aged that long. However the price is OK and the presentation is very nice. Overall I'd say keep one in your bar collection and don't bother opening the bottle.
Enjoyable, but when you consider the price there are definitely some better choices.
Just like its younger cousin the anejo, this more exclusive product excells in holding back overt sweetness and instead putting herbal, spicy and nutty qualities. it has a light quality that I actually like, making it lively. Not as oaky as one might have thought for such old rum, but still with a vrty smotth and balanced mix of the aforementioned tastes.
Good enough to taste it straight. But must be cold for doing so.
Très bon rhum fortement ambré (30 ans!), avec un côté sucre de canne/caramel assez marqué. Rond et équilibré, il ne lui manque pas grand-chose pour être un coup de coeur (son prix trop élevé sans doute).
There is a fair nose.. Some pure alcohol in it.. The taste is strong and have some nice tones.. But the finish is whats kills it for me.. Pure alcohol and the finish fades down to cheap moonshine.. Not much sweetness in it..
The nose is classic dominican and somewhat neutral in that regard. Light oak, sweet toffee and a hint of banana rise from the glass. The body and taste is medium full, soft and a little oily with deep notes of toffee, some molasse and light oaky spices. The finish is long, clean and smooth. Altogether it reminds me of a slightly more full version of the Zacapa XO. It's good but i am letting my rating reflect a pretty hefty overpricing.
This might be one of the nicest presentations I have ever seen in a room bottle, unfortunately the rum was a bit of a let down. Good but not great for an aged rum.
If you are used to and appreciate the Barcelo Imperial you will not be surpised by the 30 anniversario blend.
The bottle is very nice, mine came with a wooden stand in a metal box.
The smell is appealing, the taste is good (very Barcelo type) but it goes too fast away, there is nearly no after taste.
For a bottled priced in the 100€ I am left a bit disapointed, compared to the Barcelo Imperial priced one third of the price, I don't really find the added value except in the look of the bottle.
You might want to give it some time once served in the glass to warm up a little as I find it developing more taste (and better) after a few minutes in the glass.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Denne rom havde jeg forventet mig meget af, når man taget prisen på 2250 kr. i betragtning, så burde den efter min smag være meget bedre.
En ellers meget blød og rund rom som desværre forsvinder hurtigt i munden.
