Dark rum, caramel vanilla and smoke notes, good sipper and excellent mixer!
This rum is a real gem in terms of quality to price ratio. Opening notes are of vanilla, raisings, pecans. It has a mid to short finish, but it is a surprisingly smooth sipper. I'd rate it higher than most Barbados rums, and about equal to rums from Gayana, slightly less complex. A great rum from Venezuela. I'll be buying more of it.
Nice color, aroma and not too sweet. Great balance and finish, comparable to rums 2 to 5 years older.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Burnt caramel all the way

This supposedly dry rum from Venezuela appealed to me based upon being only $29 US. It was added to my order only to justify such a long trip to get a few better ones.
The aroma and taste first struck me as being very familiar, but I could not put my finger on it. When I went back to it, I had my a-ha moment and identified it as burnt caramel. Unlike one other review as of this posting, I don't taste any coffee or chocolate. This one is probably semi-dry with some added sugar, but not overwhelming.
Update two weeks later: This one has really risen up in my ranks for Venezuelan rums and is now ranked second only to Santa Teresa 1796. However, if that last bad bottle of ST 1796 were to repeat itself, then this would be my new favorite Venezuelan rum. And this one is much cheaper to boot, but also much harder to find for me where I live.
