Gave it a sniff first. Wasn't getting any banana. But when you drink it, it's a totally different story. A backbone of banana but enough complexity to be very enjoyable.

Rum tasting in Finland just before Christmas continued onwards with Discarded Banana Peel Rum. Very nice and sturdy bottle and label design. Very dark mahogany color. Extremely strong but not overly powering banana flavor and taste. In a blind test this would be banana liqueur all day long but the bottle states it's a rum, so here we go. Label states Rum with Banana Peel. It contains 50 grams of sugar per liter, so be careful if you have any tendency to diabetes.

I hate stunts. I generally despise additives. I definitely don't care for flavorants. So you could say I was not expecting good things from the label. Less so from the nose... Did I mention I'm not a huge fan of bananas? Ya the nose is just.. Banana. To its credit it smells entirely exactly like banana. Not extract or flavoring. Just slightly overripe banana. The kind that's like a day away from being banana bread material. And that's what I get from this rum. A surprisingly complex pour. I get oaty, woody notes on the tip, lovely caramel and molasses and of course the banana, which is not cloying or overdone. It's very present but I can still focus on the rum.

Which begs the question... Is this in fact rum? Or rum liqueur? That's a nice debate to have but it's labeled rum and I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. I'll add a bottle to my collection for cocktails and will occasionally sip it neat.

A nice rum overall although the banana flavour was more synthetic than other similar flavoured rums. Still worth a try

The name gives it away: there's a strong banana flavour on the nose and the palate. Relatively mild and tasty. Wouldn't drink it every day but, boy, this is some happy rum to enjoy!

Mild banana on the nose but more on the palate. Strong cinnamon with some other baking spices to follow. Moderately smooth. Might do better with ice or a little water.

Even though the name pretty much says it all, it was still a nice rum that I can see using in the future in mixed drinks since it doesn’t taste fake or overly sweet.

Very Banana flavour but ideal for an after dinner drink.

Molasses based, most likely a pot and column blend and aged for an unspecified amount of time in whisky casks. Bottled at 37.5% ABV and infused with banana peels – very likely with sugar and caramel added.
