Neptune Barbados Gold Rum
Score 7
duft frugt og alkohol, smag lidt tynd, frugt, peber, lidt vanila, ok eftersmag
I have been meaning to give Neptune rum a go for a while now and finally got round to it.
Straight... its pretty smooth and relatively uneventful, though mixed its pretty fantastic and will be a good choice for cocktails or just with cola. Hints of caramel, butterscotch, toasted coconut and a faint whiff of banana and vanilla coming through, all without being overly sweet, certainly a stand out golden rum for mixing.
Edit: Now I have almost finished the bottle, and compared with some other rums side by side, I have amended my score to fit. It is certainly drinkable and nice as a mixing rum, but simply there are much better rums at this price point, and alternatives I prefer at significantly less. I would say its worth experimenting with, but don't expect anything special.
Such a bland rum. Dull taste and one of the worst I've tried.
My go to golden rum for mixing. A bit harsh to drink neat but decent enough.
Beautifully presented in a wooden box, cradled by some mock sea weed.
Tall bottle with a natural cork stopper.
From the looks alone a great present.
Price £ 35-40
It's a single blended rum (pot & column still) from Foursquare Distilleries (my personal centre of the rum universe) in Barbados.
It is a blend of 8, 5 and 3 year old rums, aged in Bourbon casks, but then chill-filtered and submitted to some "softening" process (eh?).
It has probably not been sweetened and by the light colour no caramel added and weighs in at 40%.
It claims to be the most awarded rum in 2018/19.
Of note is support for a number of charities dedicated to cleaning up and saving the oceans.
So much for the theory.
In the glass: Golden
Nose: Light, fresh, fruity - bananas and apricots, but no overripe fruit and little sign of the pot still.
Palate: Dry (1/5), quite spiritey in keeping with the young age but pleasantand - as advertised - very smooth. Restrained dry fruit, slightly bitter finish.
Throat: Aromas don't linger much, moderate burn.
Summary:
A great looking package.
The rum is a bit lightweight as a sipping rum if you pitch it against Foursquare's exceptional cask series, but that is comparing apples with pears. You should be thinking Doorly's 5 and in that category it is very decent stuff and it makes for a tremendous mixer.
However the support for our Oceans is enough reason to knock a few out as presents and I have marked it up by a point for that.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Lidt banan

Rigtig god duft af frugt, frisk banan. En smule tynd i smagen med smag af fad. Frugtig og en smule peber. Ikke meget dybde, få nuancer. Men absolut ikke til den helt dårlige side (6. december 2020 i 1423)
