There is a slightly heavier body to this than the Don Q Añejo and that make sense because the youngest rum in the blend is 7 yrs old vs the former being 3. It has mild bittersweet flavors that are a hint of butter, brown sugar, and cognac. Very good.
I picked this up from Total Wine for $27.99 down in Delaware. I love the new bottle designs that Don Q is rolling out. This a a solid rum for the newcomer just getting into aged rums. Good amber color, great taste and decent finish. This should be a good everyday rum to have in your collection.
Nasty. Glad it was cheap. Keep as a mixer. Definitely not worth it if you're looking for a sipper.
This was reasonably tasty and semi-complex. It had some bite and burn but it wasn't bad. It smelled more like tequila than rum but the smell wasn't offensive. It was semi-sweet and overall decent but not great. It's the best Don Q product that I have had so far. It's fairly reasonably priced and probably worth a try but don't expect greatness.

A more costly replacement for my beloved Don Q Anejo budget rum 6 out of 10
I know that in my last discussion I stated that there would be no more reviews on rums that I have not tried. However, I have known about this replacement for Don Q Anejo for months and finally saw it on the shelf for $21. I just had to bring it home and do a side by side test.
The new bottle is shorter and wider and also comes with a cork instead of a screw cap. This new one comes from a blend of rums aged 7 years each. The Anejo was from a blend of rums ranging in ages of 3 to 8 years. This new one has no aroma, unlike the Anejo. Both taste almost the same, but this new one has a slightly more bitter after taste.
I had been used to paying $15 for the Anejo, so this $6 price increase is simply not worth it to me. I will just go over to the clearance center nearby and scoop up as many of the Anejos for $10 each before they are all gone.
