Take this with a grain of salt, as I am very new to drinking rum neat. I'm not a huge fan of the taste of the barrel first and rum second, and this hit it home for me. I did find it hits all the marks of a Spanish style rum.
Great Aroma, Fine smooth taste that just goes down too easy. Great neat but as a mixer, sometimes I think it gets lost amongst the other added ingredients in my Favorite rum based cocktails. This is my go to and I have a hard time keeping this in my private stock as it only lasts 4 days sometimes!
This was reasonably tasty and semi-complex. It had some bite and burn but it wasn't bad. It smelled more like tequila than rum but the smell wasn't offensive. It was semi-sweet and overall decent but not great. It's the best Don Q product that I have had so far. It's fairly reasonably priced and probably worth a try but don't expect greatness.

Don Q never disappoints me 9 out of 10
The nose is strong, with oak, grapefruit and other citrus fruits, pineaple, notes of cocoa, and a hint of nail polish, I really love it. The taste starts with mildly sweet citrus fruits, pineaple, honey, ends with white oak, the aftertaste is oak, with lasting spicy grapefruit and other citruses, with a slightly bitter twist at the end and a little pleasant afterburn. Overall the rum is nicely crafted, with a fresh feel, giving me much more pleasure than other - allegedly older - competitors. And please - do not try to compare this with Bacardi, this one is a completely different story.
