Strong nosing and palate profile dominated by medicine, eucalyptus, citrus and grapefruit.The high ester concentracion, the degree of alcohol and the special finish give this rum a diversified and intense character. Good finish with adequate duration. Real grade is 8.5

This is an experiment from TRC, because I love their 19y Fiji rum I wanted to try this one.

Slightly sharper than the 19 TRC.
The nose is fruity (the fruit is reminiscent of WP Estate -> Banana) with the typical Fiji Pot Still aromas of olives, some esters, herbs, plastic, some leather, medicine and, deeper in the glass, pine needles.

Spicy and clearly fruity start than the 19, the JNY is noticeable with fruit (banana), ester and an acidic note. The middle again belongs to Fiji, medicine, olives, some acid, herbs, plastic, tannins (the 19s hardly have any bitterness at that point), oak.
Long finish, first with Fiji aromas (oak is much more pronounced than in the 19er) with a change towards JNY (fruit and ester). The same in the aftertaste. JNY is gaining more and more influence.

Conclusion: successful combination, the influence of JNY is noticeable, but does not overlay the Fiji flavors too strongly. Of course one has to take into account a loss of Fiji flavors. The tannins are more noticeable at first, after 2cl significantly less (but they do not disappear completely). The finish and aftertaste are very good with a mix of Fiji and JNY.
19 TRC remains the holy grail of Fiji for me. This experiment turned out better than I imagined. Therefore as a Fiji fan, I would rate this one with 88 points.

I really loved almost every Fiji-2001 bottlings from The Rum Cask for now : The 15, 16, 18 and 19y bottlings were all to my likings.
Fijian rum are not exactly like Jamaicans but still have similar flavour profiles. This "exprimentation" seemed interesting.

The nose is great, the best of Fiji and Jamaica (or the worst, if you are not into these heavy pot still rums). Pungent, very waxy, "dirty" but not too much, zests, olive, fruity...
The palate is absolutely coherent with the nose : typicaly pot-still heavy fijian with a bit more esters.
The finish is good but surprisingly short. A bit disapointing after this massive "in your face" amount of flavours.

To sum-up : High-ester big fat rum lovers won't be surprised with this fijian-jamaican hybrid. I liked this one a lot, just found the end a little bit frustrating. Still a very good bottle at reasonnable pricetag.
