Today I have something special in the glas. A 32y old single cask Guyana MEC pot still rum.
Destilled: 1988
Bottled: 2020
Abv: 47,9% vol.

The nose is dark and sweet with cherries. I would gues in a blind tasting that this one is very old.
But it's also balanced, the wood influence is there but not too present.
I get dark flavors first, molasses, wood from an old wet cask, dry cherries with cranberries, cold coffee, chocolate and some sweet notes from caramel and dry fruits. The dry fruits are like in the 30y old Zacapa, dates, figs.
Some herbs, together with the sweetness, it's very rich. Some earth and a medical note is also there.
This is a damn good nose.

The taste starts bitter with tannins and very dark with little bit sweetness form the burned sugar. It's also a little bit spicy but I almost not mentioned that. I can imagine the Royal Navy would like this stuff. It's a little bit too old in the taste, the nose was perfect. The wood influence is too high.
After the tannins I get some medical notes and a little bit sweetness from burned sugar again.
Then flavors are developing with cold coffee, dark chocolate and old wet barrel.
The middle taste starts with medical notes, then tannins and after that all the beautiful dark flavors are developing. Dry fruits like date and plum, again the cold coffee, dark chocolate and the wet old barrel.
The finish is not spicy, I get burned sugar, dark bitter chocolate and the dry fruits with some cherries.
The aftertaste is the best part. It's earhty and minty with cherries, medical notes and dark moldy wood.

The nose was exceptional, but in the taste it's clear that this rum was too long in the cask.
I would rate this one with 89 points. Still a great rum, but I think as a 25y or 27y old rum it was better.

This Rum Cask bottling from the Enmore Distillery with the Mark MEC is a rum from Guyana, which was produced in 1988 in the pot style process and was allowed to store for 32 years, and then was bottled as a single cask with 47.9% alcohol without coloring or other additives.

The rum has a beautiful, perfectly balanced aged nose. Beautiful aromas of dried fruit and plum pair with aged leather and wood, a nice spiciness, burnt sugar, caramel and a hint of citrus, which create a light menthol note. The whole thing is not super intense, but elegant and balanced. On the palate, the rum is spicier than expected and shows a wonderful fine complexity. Wood, old leather and spice meet prune and burnt sugar. The rum is roasted and becomes even spicier with tobacco and more bitter substances on the finish. The rum is silky, soft and elegant. The alcohol is almost imperceptible. The finish is then woody with a lot of bitter substances, leather and a hint of tobacco and menthol, which makes the rum somewhat medicinal. The rum lasts for a long time.

A great rum, which for me is easy sipping on the highest level. A lot can be discovered here and the enjoyment is great without the rum demanding the drinker. This rum is inviting you. That's high quality and great cinema. The slightly low alcohol content doesn't bother me here. However, it should not be drunk after a high cask strength rum. That would lower the experience.
