What can I say? This is a classic, entry level rum. I always found Appleton Estate to stand out when using it as a mixer. This rum and coke is seldom beat.
As a sipper I would prefer something more complex, but it still has it's own character if you choose to use it as such.

Nose and taste seems to me very similar. Mostly tangy grapefruite with a burned caramel aftertaste, not much complexity. There is some reminiscent of what whiskey drinkers would identify with iodine of an Islay style. People who like Oban whiskey will probably enjoy this one too.

Appleton Estate Signature is my first venture into the vast Appleton portfolio (and apparently the cheapest and most widely available). This will sting the wallet just slightly more than most of the rums you'll find at Albertson's, but it's definitely a good value. With beautiful color and packaging (I love a girl with curves), it sure catches the eye. I would recommend this over something like Bacardi Gold in a heartbeat. It is not a flawless sipping rum but a solid, legitimate rum. Its flavor is nice, albeit a bit simple. It is not too harsh but not remarkably smooth and feels like a one-note spirit. That note, however, is solid, and if you want a solid rum to start out with, this may leave a better taste in your mouth than its competitors at this range. Give it a try! I look forward to giving more Appleton rums a try myself.

Quite delicious for a cheaper rum. Kind of like the Evan Williams of rum. Not some mass market brand, but a respectable distillery with quality still in mind over quantity.

First off, I love the 21 and 15. Really like the 12 year and even the 8 and I was not expecting a really big drop off with the signature but I got it. Harshness from nose to taste to aftertaste. A mixer for sure. Thin and no complexity. Of course the cheapest Appleton by far but still...

Smells of tropical fruits, cinnamon, vanilla and Jamaican funk aka to me over ripe bananas. Flavor much like the smell, more flavorful and smooth than other rums I've had.

I liked some of the other Appleton Estate rums that I've tried so when I was looking for a rum to keep at my grandparen'ts for summer from the limited local selection I was not worried about trying a new product (for me) from their line. Unfortunately, this rum just didn't feel like it measured up. The sweetness comes through certainly but my (certainly unrefined palate) was unable to pick up too much else. It gets the job done and still provides a modest rum flavor but would not be my go to.

Goes really well on it's own or on the rocks. Maybe not state of art, but very solid position for those who like jamaican rums.

If youโ€™re looking for a solid Jamaican rum at an even more solid price then look no further. This retails for about $22-25 US and is absolutely perfect for any occasion whether it be mixing that perfect cocktail calling for a Jamaican rum or even sipping. Yes I said sipping. If youโ€™re into Jamaican runs then youโ€™d have no problem sipping this one. I think Appleton knocked it our of the park with this one when you take it exactly for what it is, a budget friendly Jamaican rum.

What a classic! The basic Appleton Estate that comes into Australia is not the best, but its totes a classic! This rum makes the best rum and coke. Thats what it was born for and you can help it realise its destiny! (I did like the earlier blend a touch more. I think I could just be nostalgic for the old packaging though as I dont have Joy Spence's mad skills.)
