Released in August 2020 , aged in bourbon and port barels. I like a little sweetness in it .I think this is one of the best Foursquares I’ve tasted so far.

Foursquare keeps releasing new expressions, each better than the last!

On the nose, it’s sweet with vanilla, fruit and caramel.

On the palate, its smooth. it’s sweet, spicy and peppery. There’s a good burn which is to be expected at this ABV, however, this is one of the smoothest Foursquare Exceptional Cask releases. Definitely one you can drink neat.

The finish is strong and spicy on the tongue and lingers with sugar cane grassiness for a long time.

This is a great rum, and by far my favorite. Time to stock up!

Fresh update, I’ve been saving my older Foursquare rums but just sampled the last four, and I have to say that Nobiliary, and 2008 pinch away from Detente. Detente has great flavor and stays with you but the depth and smoothness of 2008 and Nobiliary shine through, so I’m dropping to a 9. The first thing I notice is the Classic Foursquare Color, then the nose is a bit different from Nobiliary, 2008, and Sagacity. The taste is awesome sweet bourbon notes with a nice island spice. Trying it side by side with Premise which I believe was a sherry finish, and Sagacity Madeira finish and definitely like the Detente better. Much smoother marriage of flavors, leaves you with lots of lingering flavor with a little heat but in a good way. This is an excellent rum, glad I bought 2 bottles.ok on to my 4th bottle and this is now my favorite rum. Easy to enjoy without burning your throat. Love the full body and flavors and great price point. Still can not find in Florida keep shipping it in.

I love how when I purchase any Foursquare I know what I'm getting into. High quality and great aged taste. There is a small funkiness to it, but nothing off putting. There is also sweetness but nothing overpowering. Overall a great blend of rum. It comes in close to my Nobiliary. Definitely would purchase again at $74

barva tmavější zlato
vune síla typicky foursquares vanilou a ovocnější tony
chut plnější než sagacity díky lehce vyššímu obsahu alkoholu.
zaver lehce stiplavy s hrejivym dotekem . a zajimavou chutí na patre...(otazka jakou napisu po lahvi)
hodnoceni 8,5
koupit ano z 60%

After reading the reviews on here about this rum and being that it was available for $70 US within 40 miles, I drove over there this morning to get it. I have not been a big fan of the Foursquare ECS rums because of too much bourbon flavor. When I buy a rum, I want it to taste like rum. If I wanted a bourbon, I could save myself lots of money over most of these ECS's and get real bourbon. The key motivating point in me buying this rum is the port cask aging. However, I could have used a little more time from that cask. At least it still tastes like a rum.

One thing about most of the ECS rums is that they are bottled at cask strength. This higher ABV% allows the rum to last longer in the bottle while allowing those who drink it to add as little or a lot of water. The initial burn from this one sipped neat makes it almost unbearable to drink and this is only 102 proof. I find it more pleasant to sip Plantation OFTD neat and that one is at 138 proof. Once a small amount of water is added, then this one becomes drinkable, but without really being memorable.

Update a few days later: Nothing like taming a less than memorable rum with lots of ice cubes. That trick really worked on this one and was almost pleasurable. However, I will never dole out the big bucks for another Foursquare ECS rum ever again!. There is simply too much competition among rums with no added sugars. I actually have the Doorly's XO from the same company ranked higher in taste and at about one fourth of the price!

It doesn’t get better than this. Real dope toasted almond and apple skin like feel on the pallet.

After breaking the seal on this bad boy and pouring myself a small glass of Detente I immediately notice a much lighter color from this particular offering. Closer to the golden hue of St. Nicholas Abbey. Mild bourbon and oak smell that’s slightly sweet. Wow.... very mild ...
The 51% alcohol is very easy for me to drink. Very smooth. Oak, bourbon and the port cask subtitles are present in your mouth. I like this rum, but it isn’t as memorable as some other offerings. Not as complex as I like and a shorter mild finish. I like my rum to stick to my mouth for a while. Overall enjoyable, but IMO not there best offering.... still a solid experience

I love this rum! I'm a big fan of all of Foursquare's rums and one of my favorites was the Port cask. I'm still angry with myself for not buying more when it was around. So, I was very happy to see that they were releasing another exceptional cask series with being aged in port casks.

The nose is fruity with hints of berries and apples with some vanilla as well. The first taste is amazing with more hints of berries but also some spice and heat that really shows its complexity.

I will definitely be buying a few more bottles of this while it lasts!
