Aftappet i DK i august 2020. 50%.

The S.B.S. (Single Barrel Selection) Dominican Republic Madeira Finish comes from the bottler 1423. The Column-style distilled rum is from an unspecified manufacturer in the Dominican Republic. It could be Oliver and Oliver, since 1423 also gets his rum here for their other bottling Don Esclavo. The rum was distilled in 2007 and stored in American white oak barrels for about 12 years and then got its finish in Madeira barrels. Again, it is not clear how long. The very dark red, almost cola-like rum looks absolutely great and comes into the bottle with 50% barrel strength. On the positive side, the rum is bottled unfiltered as a single cask to 390 pieces. The presentation with packaging is high quality and top. The information on the bottle could be better like which of the 390 bottles do I have.

The rum needs some time in the glass. I left him standing 30min. Nevertheless, there is something sharp. The rum feels thick and full-bodied and has caramel and fruit. Lots of vanilla, oak, Mocha and other aromas make the nose pleasant. When drinking, I recommend very small gaps, as the rum can not quite capture its sharpness. The rum burns a little on the tongue. But then comes a pleasant sweetness. Without beeing a very sweet rum. Oak, coffee, Mocha, fruit such as plum, roasted aromas and more light fruity note comes with it. Also vanilla and some wood. A good body that struggles with sharpness. This is not optimally integrated. The finish is then medium-long with a pleasant oak note and some fruit sweetness and light bitter substances.

Overall I was a bit disappointed with the S.B.S. because I find the rum a little to sharp. The Alcohol could be better integrated. My first rum from the D.R. and I had hoped for something more. Responds positively to some water. You can get more aromas. Becomes a little milder and more accessible over time. If you like heavy rums, this is the right place for you. Transparency and information on the bottle could be better. But the color is just awesome. That's cool for sure. It is a good rum, but in the end maybe a little too expensive.
