NR: Great and tasty rum, but with a lack of complexity in the taste 9 out of 10
Distilled: 1996
Aged: 24y
Abv: 60.3%
Today I have another high end rum in the glas.
The nose is very complex from the beginning. There are many similarities with HV Forsyths 2006.
First I get salty caramel, orange peels, anise and dry fruits, some green banana also. There is also a parfumed note, like flowers. This is a strong, fruity and intensive start. Further grasy notes and herbs, leather, anise and wood. It reminds me also of Appleton 12 (a little bit dark and woody).
Great, it meets my expectations. Everything is in great balance, this is a very good nose.
Behind these flavors are wood and vanilla, barrel/earth.
The taste starts spicy and dry (a little bit like Appleton 12), also fruity with orange peels, but also sweet with some caramel and vanilla. There are also hints of apricot. In the middle when the rum gets warm I get more wood with apricot, the apricot gets more and more intensive. This is the most concentrated taste of Kirk&Sweeney12 I ever had.
Behind this flavors are oranges, vanilla and some tannins. The finish is almost the same.
In the aftertaste is also not enough complexity for a top rating.
The taste is good and very mild for 60.3%, but I miss more complexity. This is still a great rum, I would rate it 91.
For a better rating I need more complexity in the middle and the finish.
