Second Appleton in a row that I have enjoyed. Initially the afterburn was a bit strong, but the more I drank it, the smoother and deep richness I experienced. Hard to describe. Somewhat oaky, but best word is still rich. 6.5 on my scale.

El Dorado are my usual favourites, and not into the "over funky" Appleton taste. But the Rare Cask 12 year is great. Very smooth, lots and good stuff, and just the right amount of funk to make it Appleton.

I don't appreciate this one, especially for the price

There’s an argument to be made for Smith & Cross, which after the price increases in my state is a solid $10 cheaper than Appleton 12. No matter. Appleton 12 isn’t the brashest, the fruitiest, the funkiest, nor the proofy-est. But it is perfectly balanced. An easy pour any day of the week.

This Rum is very good, but not great for me. A little dryer than I like.

I would love to have the other 12-year expressions on hand to try them side by side. I couldn't detect much difference from what I remember and perceive. It's still very pleasant and easy to drink. Interestingly, I noticed an aftertaste that somewhat resembles sugarcane juice rum.

Very easy to sip straight. Very coplex, fruity, banana, little spicines, some tobacco and caramel. Really great rum

One of the first I tried as sip and I like it.
Dry one. I figure out I like that more than sweet one.
Not for cocktails.

This rum is barely drinkable and should only be served at a drunk fest. It tastes like pure gasoline and is only half a step above Barardi bottom shelf white rum. Save it for the high shcool kids. I'll drink the grown up rum.

This may be my absolute favorite rum. Jamaican, but not too funky. I taste the funk, but the funk is in the background complimenting the smooth, long finish. Everything is balanced from the nose to the finish. This stuff slays in tiki coctail recipes calling for aged blended column still, but they make a delicious 8 year rum you could be forgiven for putting in the cocktails; while you go ahead and keep this one back for a neat pour or a jumbo cube in a double old fashioned glass.
