This (along with Diplomatico,) is some of the best rum for a reasonable price there is! It's pretty smooth (minimal burn/bite,) appropriately sweet and flavorful! Quite flavorful! I'm not about to rattle off tasting notes and nose whaffs as all that is subjective but trust me, it's got good notes.
I am almost guaranteeing that a few of the more negative reviews on this website were actually directed at a different Appleton 12 year (there's three to choose from) because this IS the good stuff! It actually reminds me of the Appleton Estate 12 Year Extra from back in the day (which I rated a 7) but it's WAY more smooth and balanced than its predecessor. I tried the 8 Year Reserve next to this 12 Year and can safely say that both should be purchased as they're both great but they also both bring different things to the table.
I drink this one neat, on the rocks or when a cocktail calls for an aged rum like a Hurricane or a Painkiller. Regardless of anything, this bottle always delivers. As it is both affordable and amazing, I keep a bottle of this on hand as often as possible. I consider it one of my four main staples of rum in my house. It's an awesome rum! Buy it immediately!
Very good. Not the best I've ever had, but very enjoyable.
Nová verze Rare Casks momentálně není zrovna moc hypermarketová a není ani vyloženě podprůměrná.
My first Appleton Estate rum and it was impulsive purchase in Italy (35€, 27.10.2021).
First it smelt a lot like brandy to me, but I gave it some time to sit in a glass and it developed some interesting deep aroma. Taste is distinctive rich rum, with some pleasant burn.
Good rhum. Classic from Jamaica.
This is what you want to use and in old school mai tai.
Aged well and just enough grassy funk
One of my go-to rums, definitely worth trying if you haven't already. Features fragrant sweet notes of vanilla, molasses and fruit, without any added sugar.
Great overall rum from Appleton Estate. Lacks much of the funk often associated with Jamaica, but still a great choice.
I can sip on this rum just fine. It pretty smooth, and heavy on the oak flavor. There’s a little bit of bitterness and some burnt caramel in the middle of the taste before the alcohol heat kicks in.
Some might cry foul on using a 12 year as a mixer, but I find this rum really shines in that role. It’s robust enough to add character to complex tiki drinks and its a staple of my rum collection. I’ll put it in anything calling for a blended aged rum and have never regretted it.
It’s also absolutely fantastic in a bombo or a rum old fashioned. Just a bit of sugar and this one really dances, the somewhat harsh flavors balance incredibly well with a bit of sugar and a cocktail designed to showcase the spirit.
Very smooth, great complex taste, not too sweet. Look forward to trying other rums from Appleton.
Jamaican quality. No added sugar. Unique and pleasant taste. Minimum age of 12 years. Cheap enough for everyday sipping. Or even for cocktails. Did I forgot something? You can't go wrong with that one in your bar. I never include the price (around 25 EUR) in my rating. This is why you can regard this one as an 8+
I don’t have much to say about this rum, other than you must try it to understand it.
It presents all the wonderful characteristics that I love about Jamaican rums, but tamed slightly by its time spent in the barrel. This brings out other notes that I don’t find in younger Jamaican rums like vanilla, caramel, and some tannic dryness.
Just give it a shot! Guaranteed winner.

Nicely surprised with this fun blend. Better than it's predecessor, this rum is sweet, smooth, with slight crudeness you get from the Jamaican stills. Light, airy, and tasty. Tame this Jamaican rum with a Maduro cigar.
