Cihuatan Sahumerio 12-Year

The Cihuatan Sahumerio is a molasses rum from El Salvador and was allowed to store in barrels for 12 years. It was bottled with 45.2% alcohol and 20g of sugar.

The rum is very fruity on the nose with a lot of orange, vanilla and sweetness. On the palate, the rum is surprisingly flat and is mainly determined by the sweetness. Vanilla, toffee and a little seasoning. All rather flat and disembodied. Due to the sugar, the rum is mild and easy to drink. The finish is slightly woody.

This rum was a disappointment, as the rum hardly delivers anything in terms of taste. It is clearly too expensive for that. If you want to try a Cihuatan, please try the Nikté. It is also not a clean rum but at least it has some taste.

Der Cihuatan Sahumerio ist ein Melasse Rum aus El Salvador und durfte 12 Jahre in Fässern lagern. Er wurde mit 45,2% Alkohol und 20g Zucker abgefüllt.

Der Rum ist in der Nase sehr fruchtig mit viel Orange, und Vanille und Süße. Am Gaumen ist der Rum überraschend flach zu nd wird vor allem durch die Süße bestimmt. Vanille, Toffee und etwas würze. Alles eher flach und körperlos. Durch den Zucker ist der Rum mild und einfach zu trinken. Der Abgang ist leicht holzig.

Dieser Rum war eine Enttäuschung, da der Rum geschmacklich kaum etwas liefert. Dafür ist er eindeutig zu teuer. Wer einen Cihuatan probieren möchte sollte dann doch bitte eher den Nikté probieren. Hier wurde auch nach geholfen, dafür schmeckt er auch nach etwas.

On the nose: unusual (disgusting) note of caramel, clear note off (baby vomit/cheese foot). On the palate: artificial aromas, disgusting caramel note, spices. In the finish: Spices and off notes (disgusting).

I like the Cihuatán Nikté but this one is not drinkable!

I've only sipped it twice as an appetizer (starter) for a local degu but it's a typical Cihuatan both by nose and by taste, just I's still prefer the great Nikté, but the gap is not really that far as it resembles one another. I liked Xaman and Indigo as well, if comes to that. Can't quite open my Nauhal anymore as quickly became collectible. That is by the way likely future of Sahumerio as well as only limited amount has also been produced (and pretty much impossible to copy again, at least as I was told). As for the taste relevances, it seems to me less honey and more woody or smokey to me than Nikté but I can imagine lot of people would not even distinguish them with closed eyes :)

Surprise, surprise. Pretty good rum. Vanila and honey tones. Very long (and pleasant) aftertaste.

If you are looking for rum with full fruit flavours ( esp. oranges ) and at the same time you are not fan of sweet rums, than congratulations, you just found you winner.

Rum vo vôni pripomína ostatné rumy z Cihuatanu. Podobná medovo, ovocná, oriešková a kvetinová vôňa a chuť. Tentokrát ale s výraznejším drevom a jemnou dymovosťou.
