ABV 56.5%
Single Cask #134
Distilled: 1991-2000 (19y)

There was a big hype in German forums about this rum. Some said "it's a forgotten Caroni cask which was sold to TDL". Maybe, but I think TDL knows exactly what casks they have in their stock and they would not sell a Caroni cask for such a price. So let's see.
Strong medical notes (typical TDL note for me) and tar is first in my nose. Reminds me of the Bristol Caroni 10y. Yes there are strong similaritis with Bristol Caroni 10y (40% abv), but at the abv of 56.5% this should be much stronger in the nose as a Caroni. It's very tasty in the nose with caramel, brown sugar, tar, herbs and black currant.
Perhaps it's the air and the pint factory in Trinidad that produce such aromas. After all, Caroni is also from Trinidad too.

The taste is very mild for 56.5%, also with a lot of medicine, typical TDL.
Again strong similarities with Bristol Caroni 10y (red label). This rum starts immediately with wood, tanins, tar and brown sugar. No doubt, that it's an old rum with a lot of influence from the cask.
The bitter tanins are everywhere, but they don't distrub me and I can enjoy all the flavors.
In the middle you get the wild leather and the black currant (verty tasty for me).
The finish is a little bit spicy with medicine, tar, mint and tanins. The aftertaste is tasty with everything I already mentioned.

So is it a Caroni? I would say no, because of the abv it cant be a Caroni. It would be more intensive and concentrated. The medical note says it's a TDL rum.
If you would give me a glas and say to me, this is a 45 abv Bristol Caroni.
I would believe you, because there are a lot of Caroni aromas and I know some Caronis with such flavor profile.

This is cleary the best TDL I ever had. Dirty aromas, very old in the taste with a lot of tanins, smooth at the same time and tasty with black currant, mint and wild leather.
Would rate it with 92 point as a TDL. My best TDL so far.

The Rum Artesanal Trinidad 2001 is a 19 years matured rum of the TDL (Trinidad Distillery Limited) Distillery. The rum was bottled in 2020 with 56.5% cask strength by the German bottler RA. All this, of course, without dyes, sugar or filtration. It is a very limited bottling and as all very good RAs hard to get.

The rum is typical Trinidad in the nose. Heavy aromas of baked tropical fruit with a medicinal note. But also wood and caramel. There are those dirty notes. They are so addictive. I love Trinidad Rums.

On the palate, the TDL signature is confirmed. Menthol, medicine and a deep dark sweetness. Wood notes and light bitter substances come along. Leather is recognizable. The rum becomes spicier. Also, the dirty note is there again. The finish is woody with the light but pleasant bitter substances. Here everything gathers again. The reverberation is not intrusive but the rum stays long.

A great rum and a great TDL. Less fruity but dirty and spicy. It brings everything and is a fantastic bottling. If you like Trinidad, you must have tried this TDL. It is a little similar to Caroni. Which certainly does not harm the rum.

I love Trinidad Rums.
