A well balance one ! I enjoyed sipping it !
Lack a little bit of complexity but overall it does the Job ! The final is really persistant.
I m looking forward to taste the 18 and 23 years. Already have both in my cabinet.
Tasted at Laka Lono 4/17/22 on Easter, in celebration of completing a 12 hour work day. This was rum 2 of 3 from Kirk and Sweaney.
The flavor is lighter than the 23. It seemed slightly medicinal, or perhaps carried an improbably peppermint flavor.
I had hear only good things about kirk and Sweeney from this site. So when I found it during my trip to Seattle I was debating on which bottle to get. I settled on the 12 year instead of the 18 which they also had. Overall I was a bit disappointed, as it is good but with a pretty mild flavor profile and quite thin mouth feel. I was just expecting a quite distinct flavor that I would label this rum with but was left with a quite standard rum Which was not too sweet and goes down easy.
I found this smooth, very drinkable and one to enjoy with friends - making it a solid crowd pleaser. I sense a lot of additional sugar, which is why I rate it a 7, but having a look around online it says it has little additives, but I find that hard to believe. Still I wasn't disappointed and I look forward to going through their range.
Tasted at Laka Lono on 1/19/20. This was the earlier version of the rum that they have reconfigured as reserva. Big banana aroma. Sweetness to first taste with a mild pepper finish. A big banana flavor persists. Cloves. Vanilla. Finishes mild.
