The nose initially it reminds me of VSOP cognac - a grapey note is prominent before fading off; it then opens up a bit more with some banana, spice and some really lovely wood aromas, something like cedar. On the palate, it has some initial low-key sweetness which gives way to a good amount of dry wood, with a black pepper note tagging up with a touch of alcohol burn. Nothing detrimental. The finish is fairly non-descript with a touch of caramel. Overall, it’s my least favourite of the ED 2006 single still bottlings, compared to the Versaiiles and the Port Mourant. However, the ability to sample to component parts of the ED blends is a fascinating exercise in its own right.

Pleasant sweet, spicy flavour but finishes a little quickly. Not as complex as the port mourant or versailles single still releases.

Great nose. Intensly complex with Licorice honey butter and wood warm smoke. The buttery notes are savory and coat the pallet. Rich and full. Great balance. Superb finish. A great rum.

I love El Dorado. But this one just did not live up to the hype for me. one of the other reviews pointed out it had a Cognac taste and they are right. I am not a big fan of Cognac.

Nice still expression. Got it for close-out pricing so I feel I got lucky

I love that it is unique but the 15 year is more sophisticated. This is the smoothest of the three single stills so far but I haven't tried the versailles yet. The port mourant was a bit more flavourful I thought. Cant wait to try the third one. Thanks El Dorado, went down way too quick.

Smooth blend, little more of a Cognac taste. Not as good as the 15 year blend.

($65CAD) Smells mostly of alcohol, a bit aggressive. This pencil eraser type smell transforms into something brilliant on the tongue; something I can't entirely describe. Very faint hints of fruit, with something more prominent that I cannot identify. It's more on the woody or earthy side, almost like peat or charred oak. After a while in the glass, the butterscotch and wood notes come out in the aroma with the wood notes dominating the flavour. A fun dram to ponder on.

Rich colour with the good typical ElDorado nose after resting. First taste has a little bite but a rich balanced fruity flavour with a bit of burnt caramel. It has a long smoky smooth finish. 90 Can$ at LCBO
