Very good level of hogo and funk! Nothing like a good Wray & Ting cocktail! If you cannot find this, try to get a Rum-Bar White Overproof.
Crystal clear. Smells great, banana overtones and alcohol nose. Hard to drink straight at 63% or 126 proof. Works great in tiki drinks and as a base for making allspice dram and shelf stabilization of flavored syrups. Not a sipping rum and not for the feint of heart. Funk. funk .fun
This rum is definitely an acquired taste. Now I mix a little bit of it into all of my tiki drinks. Really amps up the Hogo! This rum is brilliant and nothing like anything that I ever expected rum to taste like. It's a must own in the liquor cabinet of any tiki enthusiast.
I had many trips to Cuba and always enjoyed Havana Club 7 yo. Up until now I did not try anything else except Cuban rum. Once I've brought from there Santiago de Cuba 11yo and have found it so smooth and delishius compared to HC. Since then I've discovered world is full of different rums ). Had tried 12 of them so far. And I will rate them comparing to HC as the base rated 6.
Might as well drink IPA.
Too strong and overbearing for my taste buds but I'm sure that I know nothing about rum.
...the "terrible" smell leaves you shocked,...I waited 15 minutes before I had the balls to sip on it...amazing, how can something that basically stinks taste that good.
I have not tried it yet mixed, but I am sure it does the magic as well.
A keeper in my bar shelf...solid 7.5
It is strong white rum - not magic. Quite ok, tastewise.
When you need a swift kick in the pants and still retain decent rum flavoring.
Only for use in cocktails and then only sparingly. Not to be drunk straight as it will knock you out! Tastes nasty by itself but can be used in cocktails.
Get notable citrus and vegetal/grassy aromas.
"Despite the funk and grassy aromas there is still a fair amount of sweetness on the nose. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is delicious. Imagine a very sweaty person standing in overripe and rotten tropical fruit while frying bananas, papayas and pineapple on a grill which is occasionally doused in gasoline and you'll be somewhere in this rum's fun park of flavour. It is packed with that distinct Jamaican estery funkiness. Bacardi white this ain't.
I believe it is a mix of pot and column still distillate (I'd love to see a pot still only expression, btw). Although it is intended as a mixer--it's pretty much an essential white OP for many cocktails--I actually quite enjoy this neat, albeit with a few drops of water to bring it down to a more manageable 45-50%.
It is truly bold, singular stuff! This IS rum! If you like flavourless white rums may I suggest you check out a little drink known as vodka. And just as an aside, many of the people who gave this a negative review apparently rate stuff like Zacapa and Diplomatico Reserva very highly, which, in my opinion, are more like rum liqueurs. These "rums", although popular, are invariably overly sweet, characterless and inoffensive spirits that have had whatever soul they may have possessed blended, sugar'd, glycerol'd, vanilla'd, prune'd and mystery-ingredient'd out of them. This, on the other hand, is simply rum, as all rum should be. Anyway... just something to keep in mind when reading the negative reviews.
