Get the funk up in my face! Amazing value (less than $20 for 750ml), %63 ABV, rotten bananas on the nose, will burn going down neat. I know this is not really a sipper but I strangely enjoy it that way and keep coming back to it. If you do it that way use some ice or water it down a little. It will surely liven up any cocktail you put it in. I guess Jamaicans drink it with Ting (grapefruit soda) or in a punch. I just had it with lime juice and triple sec in sort of a Wray margarita. Hell, i even like it with just ice and a lime sparkling water. Hall of fame rum.

Given the legendary status of this rum, I just had to try it sooner or later - and now a whole bottle is sitting on my counter.

The bottle design is nice and adequate, but what I really dislike is the plastic screw cap and the plastic "no-refills!" safety blocker. I just don't think overproof alcohol and plastic should ever meet anywhere, and in today's plastic-saturated environment, the thought of slowly dissolving plastic stopper leeching some plastic-based aromatic compounds back into my drink is not something I would call appetizing.

The rum itself is crystal clear, leaving no legs, just like a freshly made moonshine. I don't know if it was briefly aged and filtered as Havana 3y is, but my guess would be no. The smell is pleasant, light, fresh, fruity (oranges, apricots, tangerines), almost with artificial candy-like notes.

The taste opens up with a creamy, sweetish rush, full of over-ripe fruit, lot's of bananas, marmalade and figs, accentuated with really heavy alcohol baseline, rough and totally unapologetic, but still not as barbaric as Everclear or some badly distilled vodkas I have tasted. It's still a well-made booze, just playing it rough. Which I am sure is a welcome characteristic, especially in mixed drinks like daiquiri.

In the end, the rum lives up to its reputation - not as something I would pour after a tiring day to kick back and relax, but as a powerful and vivid cocktail component with I intend to experiment a lot.

Always a pleasure. Smooth banana, grass and peas on the pallet. Cane and soil on the nose.

Exactly what it should be. Funky, over ripe tropical fruit. I like funky Jamaican rum so I definitely like this. Straight up it's a handful. With a cube of ice and sipping respectfully it's wonderful, if you like funky rum. Mixed with Ting and a lime twist it's refreshing and easy going!
If you like funky rum then go for it. If you don't then stay away but PLEASE don't try it and rate it horribly if you don't like funk. Be fair here. A true Jamaican classic!

One of my favorite refreshing drinks is a Wray and Ting. This rum is funky, strong, grassy and hold up against other bold ingredients in a cocktail.

Good flavour. A strong taste to be expected from overproof rum. Not a favorite for me.

This rum is simply one of the best white rums out there. It has the jamaican funk and then some. Strong over ripe fruit, some grass and a little tiny bite at the end. The proof is evident when you drink it straight, but it mixes in with fruits and syrups well.

Strong.. STRONG. Doesn’t freeze at -16 (according to the freezer readout), found to be too strong to drink neat, but goes well as a boilermaker with an alcoholic ginger beer

Very good level of hogo and funk! Nothing like a good Wray & Ting cocktail! If you cannot find this, try to get a Rum-Bar White Overproof.
