Definitely a real wild youngster. This agricola comes with slightly peaty hints but not as you may know from peated Single Malts. After my first taste it reminds me very much like Grappa. A very dry taste, bit fruity and a hint of smoked bar-bq. This Rhum is strange but sometimes also exciting.
This is not my first try of JM rums, nor agricole style. I'm not a big fan, but I always give a try. In this case, it's worth it! The color it's deep and brownish, it seems an old rum. Good start.
Nose: the toasted notes are prominent, but not annoing. They matched perfectly with oak and other woods, and you immediatly understand the origin of its name. It's 50% abv, but it not punch you in the face with alcohol like a wrestler, rather it's gentle and with a lot of sweet notes of caramel, molassess and ripe fruit.
Taste: coherent with the nose, it has a medium body, it's warm (but not too much, It doesn't burn your mouth), it's woody, spiced, and all it's mixed together perfectly. The caramel become more interesting, and it developed in burnt caramel, butter, honey and pastry notes. All with hint of spice like vanilla and black pepper on the background. The finish it's surprisingly long, with the butterly, honey and pastry tastes that come back again and again. Definitely a very good one!
Notes: it's a complex rum, and it's surprisingly! Not the first one if you want to try agricole style rum, but it's impressive. Not exceptional, but it's a good sipper.
Lekker jonge agricole met een rokerige hint. Prima puur te drinken.

Geschmeidiges Martinique / Smooth Martinique 8 out of 10
Straw yellow in the glass.
Exotic yet familiar on the nose. A recently extinguished campfire surrounded by large boulders of basalt at the foot of the volcano. Juicy tropical fruits were roasted over it.
Pleasantly soft and full of flavors on the palate. Mineral and organic flavors pour lava-like over the tongue. Roasted mangoes, pineapple and papaya powdered with powdered rock and decorated with chocolate flakes dipped in caramel. Lightly charred, woody and resinous notes add a kick.
On the finish, the tart flavors linger for a long time. Fruits and caramel disappear first, leaving a salty memory.
Another gem from the "L' Atelier des Rhum" series. Intended for mixing, but also pure very tasty. I personally like this a bit better than the Jardin Fruité. For beginners and connoisseurs of Rhum Agricole. 8+
