Got this as a replacement for zafra 21. I was not disappointed!!!! Front nose is light fruit almost PEAR like with nutmeg. She almost a single malt like nose to her! As it Coates your palate with cane and slight notes of raisins, you are left with a ginger/nutmeg/clove barrage with an ever so slight peppery tannin of oak. She finishes with a long after butterscotch dry finish. This is most definitely a refined pallet sipper. It would pair very well with a very light bodied habano or a white fish/pasta dish. Hands down I will be buying this again and again!!!!
Enjoyed this stuff smooth light fruits. Good neat or for daiquiris.
This is a very good expression. I might have rated it an 8 had I not just also tried the 23 year old along side it. Nice spice and oak combination. Easy on the pallat with a long smoldering finish. excellentb value and a true Panamanian rum. Very nice.
Aroma is light with oak vanilla and brown sugar. Taste is sweeth with caramel, maple syrup and molasse. Aftertase could be longer, but is pleasant with oak and caramel. Taste coul be more complex for 15y aging but othervise very good rum for beginners. 7.5 points.
Nose: eggnog, nutmeg, allspice
Palate: caramel, maple syrup, oak, vanilla, allspice, bourbon
Aftertaste: maple syrup, vanilla, creme brûlée, oak, sherry, essences of cigar smoke
What a wonderful medley of aromas and flavors. A(nother) fantastic true aged, pure creation of Don Pancho. This is similar to, and almost on par with, Zafra 21 (which is a huge compliment from me given my love for Zafra 21). However, it is just slightly different, and deeply impressive given that it is a true aged rum. Though it is ostensibly the same underlying rum as Panama Pacific 9-year, just aged longer, it is a definite step up from its 9-year old brother. It is a fairly dry rum with sherry and bourbon notes that bourbon drinkers will undoubtedly love.
This could easily stand in for Zafra 21 as it has a very, very similar profile and attributes. The nose is absolutely delightful - especially if you love nutmeg. The nose is nutmeg, allspice, and Christmas eggnog. Three notes but beautifully done. Not much more I can say other than I love it - then again I am a nutmeg junkie so there is that. On the palate you get an impressively smooth mouthful of what starts as caramel and light maple syrup notes which morph into oak, vanilla, allspice, and bourbon. It differs from Zafra 21 on the palate only in that it lacks the fine tobacco notes of Zafra. The aftertaste is what really distinguishes this from Zafra, especially on the back end. Here you get a very nice combination of maple and vanilla, initially like Zafra, but which then morphs into light creme brûlée notes before an onset of oak. As that fades I get distinct flavors of sherry before finishing with a dry cigar smoke sherry medley. I have to admit, this is pretty damn nice. Maybe not *quite* on the level of Zafra 21, but pretty darn close. What is impressive is that all of this is achieved through natural aging and with no additives. This is NOT a solera; it is a true aged rum akin to a Bajan but with a distinct Cuban flavor achieved naturally from quality rum and natural aging - which is pretty much what it is advertised as. I am definitely a fan!

Not very distinct from other Spanish style rums, very smooth, vanilla nose and maybe some citrus if you look close enough.
