Pusser’s 50th Anniversary, was released to celebrate 50 years since the Black Tot Day. It’s limited to 4498 bottles and I was lucky to get three of the last bottles for sale in Europe.
It’s a blend of rum from three different DDL stills (quite a lot from the Port Mourant wooden double pot still I believe) and two different Trinidad stills.
The five different distillates, then Three years old, was thereafter blended at WIRD in Barbados and aged for four more years before bottled at ABV 54,5%, same ABV as for Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof.
The nose is rich and complex. I recognize chocolate, spices and fruits.
On the palate it’s still rich, spicy and fruity. I recognize prunes, Demerara sugar, tobacco and hints of licorice and smoke.
The finish is long with hints of licorice, smoke and berries.
Overall it’s rich and complex and the extra aging relatively the Gunpowder Proof makes it much smoother than that one.
I believe that the 50th Anniversary doesn’t taste like the British Navy Rum tasted way back in time, but it’s the best Navy Rum I’ve ever tasted.
If you want something like it probably tasted way back in time I recommend the much rawer Gunpowder Proof.
If you want something even smoother with a lower ABV you should go to the 15yo.

How I have missed this special blend, it’s a perfect blend of island spices with lots of depth. Delicious neat, has a little heat , a small cube opens it up even more. Very similar if not exactly like the original 15 year that was also 54 proof. Have to save this for special occasions as it was a one time thing. I feel lucky to own a bottle.
Musty nose, like a typical MDXC Demerara. It comes clearly from a molasses coated cask.
I have a lot of molasses in the nose and the musty walnuts.
There is also sweetness with honey and caramel. The nose is also earthy and dark.
I get also dry fruits like raisins and plums. The nose is great, I like this flavors. In comparison with Black Tot 50th it's not that complex and elegant.
Taste starts with molasses and honey, like a mix of El Dorado 15 with Diamond Artesanal 12y MDXC. Then I get walnuts, burned sugar and caramel. It's also spicy, but not too much.
In the middle I get caramel, raisins, burned sugar. The taste is thick and oily, I also get a hint of sage (a little bit bitter taste from MDXC cask).
The finish is spicy and then sweet with molasses, earth and mint.
Overall a great blend. The complexity is not as high as in the Black Tot 50th. It's also not that elegant.
I would rate it with 88 points.

Blend of Pot (Port Mourant) and column distilled rum from Guyana, and column distilled rum from Trinidad, aged 7 years. 54.5%ABV
Very tasty. There is a huge amount of molasses on the palate - I had a flashback to molasses cookies I used to eat as a child - large, soft cookies with a dusting of granulated sugar on top. This was a bit distracting for me, as I wanted a little bit more complexity. It also came across as very sweet, though I do not think that it is dosed.

Slightly bitter and smoky.
"A nice spicy oak overlapping the sweetness and a warming molasses note."
