Not a bad rum if you like jamaica rums. It's almos a navy blend.
There is some Guyana I think and cleary Hampden (apple). But for a price of 20€ it's not bad.

It goes in the direction of Plantation Overproof.

Smell: molasses, red dry fruits, burned sugar, apple, wood earth
Taste: molasses, dry fruits, apple, barrel, some esters, fruits
Finish: spice, some grapes, light bitterness, apple (Hampden)

It's sharp, and out of balance. But very intensive on the Jamaica side.
Not for beginners but for navy rum lovers.

Sweetness: 1.5/5
Spice: 3/5
Fruit: 3/5
Mildness: 2.5/5
Value (25€): 3/5

Tento rum by měl podle všeho dozrávat v sudech po Islandských Whiskách. A řeknu Vám, že na tom možné něco bude. Nejsem zastánce Whiskey rumů, ale tento mi rozhodně nevadí. Chutná mi více než Malteco 10 a Brugaly v podobné ceně.

This is not a failure bottle, as rum is made very properly. Pity, I mostly enjoy playfulness in distillates, and risks of the white or young ones, while here things are pretty predictable and contained. What is seriously good, there is no drag to the sugar, vanilla or woodiness, which are first to spoil the experience of the dark. Respect and valid recommendation to those after dark kind.

Since this rum is called Eight Islands and stands behind this name: "This rum from eight Caribbean Islands is masterfully blended and aged in Irish Whiskey Casks in Cork, Ireland"
i will allow myself to agree these were indeed masterfully blended and aged, and in this occasion thank to to West Cork Distillers Master blender, whomever it might be for the splendid piece of work he had done with blend.
Appearance: Dark Amber, poured from a nice round bottle with wide cork bottle cap which makes it an enjoyable bottle opening
Nose: Yeast and Molasses. can't say which more dominant but this yeast from fermentation can't be hidden. perhaps some of it is added after the distillation for flavoring. however this shouldn't be noticed in an eight rum mixture from different islands blend. not the most impressive nose. (i have to admit, i don't judge by the nose) i can't say i feel any hint of Irish whiskey barrels.
Palate: That's some deep first impression expanding slowly to every hiding spot and cavity of the mouth space slowly expanding into the cheeks and then back to the behind of the tongue, all that in a small gentle minimal tasting sip. have i already wrote that it's deep? (for full disclosure, i am sipping this as my first sip after some Pastis Duval 45% which was strong and sweet, and after 15 Year old Botran which was mellow and toned down. however Eight Islands even after these two is just as deeply expanding notion of flavors which is hard to put the finger on which is what and what is which, it's indeed rich in Guyana or/and Venezuela there is hint of Cuba and then a bit of Barbados and... Bermuda. it is confusing to try and stop the train of impressions involved. sweet but not exaggerated, there is some sugar added, but less than in the Diplomatico range, it can feel medicinal at one point but the complexity of this blend stands above any solid identified taste bud impression since it can change so quickly like that Psychedelic elephant on the label with the ever changing kaleidoscopic patterns so this Rum is illusive to the mind. only for that it has to get the 8 score.
Finish: Surprisingly long. deep. allows time for thought and wonder. leaves pleasant layer of gentle sweetness on the lips and a hint of burn on the larynx to remind you that this thing is still a legit, almost navy grade rum.
I recommend, specially if that price point will be kept in the future, this rum has a potential to become a star.
8 for Each Island despite the strange cork cap which unglued and forced me to think when i was supposed to drink.
