I stumbled on the bourbon barreled store pick Papas Pilar at a liquor store in Key West, just as the pandemic was beginning. I didn’t get to taste it until I got home but once I did, I was bummed that I hadn’t bought more than one bottle! Great for sipping, smooth, vanilla and brown sugar, with a nice boozy note. Both my wife and I loved it and ended up battling for the last sips. Searched for more online and finally found more of this limited version and bought several to last into the next year. Grab it if you find it!

A great deal of vanilla and sugar. A short aftertaste with that bourbon touch.
Not bad at all.

I’m glad to see that Papa Pilar brand is experimenting with extra aging like Ron Abuelo, Plantation, Foursquare and others. I think they are starting with the original dark Solara pancake syrup and the additional aging help. Still not a huge fan but great improvement.

Less sweet that the other dark rum offerings from Papa's Pilar, which suited my tastes a bit better. Nice layers of flavor and a good long finish.

I'm not a huge fan of bourbon aged rums. I've tried a few a few good ones, where the aging is light, but generally I prefer other types of aging for rums, such as sherry or port barrel aging.

This smells and tastes of maple, bourbon, and vanilla. Definitely not bad, but I prefer their sherry aged rums a little better. However, I do prefer this to their blonde rum.

Pretty good rum. I’d recommend, if you can find a bottle.

Jednoducha, stavnata a hodne pitelna zalazitost. Toffee strochou kavy, dreva, trtinovym cukrem a ten bourbon to krasne zakulacuje. Skvele zakomponovany alkohol.

I probably should rate it a 10, but then if I ever do find something better I would not know how to rate it. This has a little more depth and character than regular Pilar dark, but no so much that you taste the bourbon barrels like you would in an oak aged bourbon. Very smooth with Pilar’s recognizable carmel finish.

Bourbon fans rejoice. I have to admit, I was skeptical about the bourbon cask. I'm a variety drinker, but my favorite whiskey is Irish. This rum is very good. The t taste is very good. Smooth, smoky, and complex. The nose is fantastic. Bourbon does add a lot of time. It's not in the background. This rum is full of bourbon flavors. not sweet. Not too strong. A smooth, sipping. memorable. Nice smoky flavor.
