This is at best something to make cocktails out of. Undrinkable as a sipping rum. Very close to toothpaste in smell and taste.

I've looked at Don Papa for a long long time, as I think that the packaging as A+.

Coming on here (after I bought the bottle) I should have been a little more circumspect. Rarely has a rum scored right across the spectrum like this.

The nose - too sweet
The palate - too sweet
Overall - too sweet

However.....while it is far too sweet, and I suspect the addition of sugar and many other things, there is something about it that is the tiniest bit appealing. It is more appealing if you don't treat it as a rum, but more a liqueur, and does have a sophistication about it that many overly sweet rums miss out. It's strange, but while I dislike Pyrat XO, this is OK (just) but really, there isn't too much difference in the approach they take. I wonder whether giving it 4 is being overly generous {EDIT - yes it is. It is a disgusting rum so I have moved down to 1}, but maybe as it is the first rum from the Philippines that I have had, I have given it the benefit of the doubt (and it is beautifully packaged).

Easy enough to drink, but I won't be buying again. I think I might have to pull this out and drink with my Christmas pudding.

EDIT - I have revisited this bottle (I still find it hard to call it a rum) and while I still don't really like it, if you consider it not as a rum, but as a fruit bomb and a whore at that, it has a certain appeal. I think it very much depends on the mood you are in. BUT it is far too expensive.

A friend brought a bottle to a party so I gave it a try. It is not the type of rum I like. It is super sweet and has flavors not normally found in rum.

I knew going into this that this is a sweet rum... And it is a SWEET rum, but what completely ambushed me, is the artificial aroma... I can take sweet rums, they are not my favourite... but this is completely another level, it is sweet and extremely artificial.

Affreusement dopé au sucre et aux aromes artificiels de vanille

I recently tried this rum after many people (not spirit enthusiasts) talked me about it.
It is priced around 30-35€, which lower my vote.
I believe that this is not a spirit, it is a liqueur.
It is heavily sweetened, artificially flavoured with something like vanilla/bubble gum.
I don't like a rum like this, and don't know what you can do with.
Great marketing, but the product is really mediocre.

Well, this some how got on the shelf so I tried it. Don't make the same mistake I did. It has a few notes but it's hard to tell if they're synthetic or not.
Worth leaving on the shelf instead of losing $40.

This is....something. But definitely not genuine. I am lucky to get it as gift. The gift, that keeps giving.
