Jammer.

This rum is a cynical cash grab concocted by corporate marketers and ad men attempting to appeal to the discerning drinker. And by "discerning" I mean: has money and knows diddly squat about spirits, especially rum.

If rum had the rules and regulations of Scotch or Bourbon this stuff wouldn't even be allowed to market itself as rum. Small batch?!? LOL! Next time you're in the Philippines I dare you to visit this charming boutique distillery... Perhaps spend an evening sampling their rum and experiencing the terroir of the region. I'm sure a day at the distillery, which absolutely isn't some industrial beverage facility, would be very beautiful and romantic...

Look, the truth is that this is industrially produced cane sugar/molasses-based (I'm being generous here) ethanol which has been gussied up with all manner of sweeteners, artificial flavours, colours and god knows what else (glycerol and vanillan at least, according to lab tests) to make it palatable -- and it isn't! Bad enough that they call it rum, but it commits an even greater sin than playing fast and loose with the truth -- it tastes bad!

Oh, and aged 7 years? Hilarious. I doubt it's even been aged seven days! After all, we all know what age statements mean on rum (hint: it rhymes with truck ball). It's a good thing rum drinkers don't seem to care about things like age statements and hidden additives, otherwise they might start getting what they're paying pay for, which is quality.

Scoring this Rum is not easy... each and every one of us has (or should have) a clear idea of a what a rum should taste like. This is not Rum in my book, I will explain why.
As you open the boottle you're literally overpowered by a scent of vanilla and bubble-gum, trying to focus, try harder and you may smell a hint of Grand Marnier.... just maybe.
As you sip it: sugar, sugar, and more sugar, a sugar syrupy bomb in your mouth that covers everything, once you get accustomed you may taste some banana a vanishing hint of citron.
Finish: nearly absent, nothing is left.
Packaging is nice, read some reviews that were positive (seriously?) and curiosity made me buy, to me this "beverage" may be good for cocktails.

A simple review.. The worst “rum” I’ve ever tasted. A massive disappointment. Is it even rum..??!!

this rum is not a rum, i think. it is a heavy sweetend spirit, like bubble gum flavour. there is much vanilla sugar in it.

I tasted the Don Papa about 8 years ago in a shop in my hometown. It's been some time ago, but the memory is very present. Bought some rum fresh from the barrel that day. Among other things, a 1999 Bellevue in Cask Strength. The owner was a real gourmet and you could philosophize with him about rum and whisky the whole day. In his shop, you could try the Don Papa, which was new on market at that time. I asked about the rum and he said that I am allowed to try, but he thought "that stuff" was very bad. And so it was. Artificial sugar-sweetened vanilla aroma dishwater. That is how I would sum it up. I will not forget how we talked about Rum that day. That Don Papa is a disgrace and that people who try this as their first rum are on the wrong track from the start. At that time i was encouraged to buy mainly natural rums. Meanwhile, the Don Papa and Botucal are the standard rum in german supermarkets. Everything else has already been said here. Glycerin, vanillin, sugar and who knows what else. To sum it up in the current populist language: Fake Rum!

I tried this at the UK rumfest in 2013 and found a very very sweet rum, like a vanilla liqueur...if they hadn`t made a quite original cocktail with it containing coconut flakes i wouldn`t have continued trying it, and i won`t buy it ever.
