Don Papa Small Batch Rum is produced by the Bleeding Heart Rum Company on the southern island of Negros in the Philippines. The rum is distilled from molasses, then aged for over 7 years in American oak barrels, and lastly charcoal filtered.
The name Don Papa rum was inspired by Papa Isio, a leader of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish who led his island to independence before joining the main revolutionary movement.
Easily consumable in a bind
I have a handfull of all time favorites and this is one of them.
I love sweet rums and there is always a bottle of Don Papa available at home.
I was in a small English village pub in Cornwall. Asked for Zaccapa rum but no luck. Barkeep suggested I try this small batch sipping rum from the Philippines called Don Papa. It was the smoothest and most flavorful rum I have tasted. Plantation Anniversary being a very close second.
Before you drink this, you must understand that though it is labelled as an aged rum, this has a lot of characteristics of spiced rum.
For my personal taste this is great, I have a sweet tooth so the slight caramel event, and sweet orange peel taste is something I can drink all night. Lovely stuff but avoid if you don't like sweeter rums
I Tried a bunch of Rums and I can easily say this is the best rum! Really. It's smells, tastes like vanilla/caramel. It is so smooth but at the same time make you drunk very very fast.
I tried the 10 years one and it's a bit to strong(This one is 40% and 10 years is 43%).
Try it! For me this is what I am compeering others rums with.
I just can't understand why this Rum splits people so. Whilst I rate this as one of my favourite sipping Rums others dislike it. All I can suggest is that you try it for yourselves. I think that you will enjoy it. Probably the best value for money Rum that you can buy
I just came back from a trip to Negros Oriental, Philippines where Don Papa rum is made. Like the lush, sweet and beautiful island of Negros, Don Papa will put you in a state of sweet vanilla heaven being one of the smoothest rums I've ever had. Goes very well with Ginger Ale. Salamat Don Papa!

"For all its sweet sugariness, its really very drying and bitter on the palate once it all settles down."
