I picked this one up because the bottle caught my eye but was surprised at how much I enjoyed it for the price. Without a doubt, the best Dominican rum I have tried so far.
The "nose" has a slight sweetness with a hint of vanilla, the first taste, exactly the same. Back taste has a delightful hint of pineapple with the slight earthy wood tones of the aging barrels.
The smoothness makes this a fine sipping rum and for the price, I will buy more.
I’ve paired this rum with cigars ranging from mild to full from multiple countries and every pairing has been a memorable experience. Smooth, right amount of sweetness, hints of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Very cubanesque indeed. Anyone that appreciates rum and cigars will definitely enjoy the pairing.
Vizcaya VXOP 21 is a very nice experience. Smell of vanilla and a hint of chocolate. Long, delightful aftertaste that rolls around in the palate. Thank you, Vizcaya!
Absolutely smooth, a little ethanol hint disappears after few minutes of breathing.
Delicious, authentic taste which is hard to compare with anything else.
Aftertaste isn't that long but ok.
It's sweet, but definitely from sugar cane, not from added sugar.
I like that there's no any notes of the barrel - just pure rum.
Stop the War, drink rum instead!

The initial nose was off but it mellowed and was a a good sipper.

Very similar to Brinley Gold Shipwreck Spiced Rum 6 out of 10
This is not exactly what I was expecting. It is almost more of a dessert rum than anything else. For me almost exactly like Brinley Gold but with a little more warmth to it, I am sure due to the little higher alcohol content. Not bad at all for a winter night but really nothing super special. Tastes a little flat like a soda that has been sitting out too long. At twice the price of Brinley I am a little disappointed and expected more and I know it is not classified as a spiced rum but it sure tastes like one to me.
