A couple of weeks from now I may have the opportunity to purchase the new el dorado 50th anniversary rum which is a blend of rums aged between 33 and 50 years. Now I wasn't a big fan of the 25 year old and that was before I knew anything of this whole "sugar" controversy. This new rum will go for 3500 Canadian and will only release 600 bottles worldwide. Long story short; I don't know if I should purchase it. What do you think; do you think they will add just as much sugar as their other selections? Is it even worth it; I got the Appletons 30 year old for under 400. It comes with a 18 carat gold medallion but you can't drink the medallion. Money isn't an object but at the same time I don't like getting ripped off. I would love to hear from other rum aficionados. Hopefully someone who went to the recent tasting of this product in Toronto can respond. Thanks for the input.

I guess I'm not getting any responses on this one. Has anyone even tried this one yet??

Hey Andrew, I don't have any 'unique' information about the 50th anniversary, but I would seriously hope they haven't added as much sugar to this one as others. It just seems hard to believe they would with such an aged rum... but I guess that's more of a hope than knowledge :) Maybe another user has some special insight to share with us?
