Hint of Banana?

I used to drink a bit of Nassau Royale liquor. A bit sweet, but I liked it. Now it's gone to that big distillary in the sky. I'm looking for a rum around 20 gpl I think with a hint of banana (and either bourbon or cognac feel I think). Something with the feel of the Caribbean, but not so heavy as a liquor. Wish I could describe what I'm looking for better. I think I'll know it when I taste it. Centario? Ron Zacapa? Appleton Estate? Any thoughts appreciated.

Try this one! Besides being available in south Louisiana, Spirits & Spice stores carry it. One is located in Las Vegas NV and the other one is in Jackson Hole WY. Or you can order from the distiller's website "504rum".

And I agree to stay away from the basic Bumbu. When it comes to hogo, Jamaicans use rotten bananas to speed up the fermentation process and add some "flavor". The bad part is removed during distillation. These rums will be nothing at all like your beloved Nassau Royale.

The Bumbu has much more than a hint of banana, the flavor is overpowering and (to me) artificial, it's not really rum but a 70-proof liqueur...it's not inexpensive and sounded appealing in reviews, but I regret my purchase...I don't know where you go to get just a hint of hojo, Denizen's Chairman Reserve has that as does Wray & Nephew overproof but neither are pleasant sippers, to me...they mix well though.

Not sure what your budget is, or if you are sipping or mixing this rum.

Try the following from most "banana funk" to least.

Hamilton Pot still black,

Worthy park single estate reserve

Appletons 8 year

Rum Bar gold

The basic bumbu has much banana taste but it's extremely sweet. I can recommend Transcontinental Rum Line Fiji for a good accessible dry rum with pronounced bananas.
