I was enjoying Foursquare's Indelible. So was my wife, who kept sneaking sips of mine instead of pouring her own. Grumble, grumble.ย

Nothing special, just some Bally 7 years old. I never really care for these special occasions. I'll save my best stuff for my best friends, and sadly because of lockdown rules it was just me and my girlfriend tonight.

Althaur, they develop their taste for rum just as we are.

Wolf Tone, Bally 7 ain't a bad Agricole.

Stefan Persson: it certainly isn't, I enjoy its dry and grassy profile a lot. It just isn't anything special for the ocassion, just something I had lying around. Not that I have loads of special rums around anyway, only a dozen or so, nothing compared to my Whisky or brandy collection.

Happy New Year everyone.ย

I had a Bristol Classic Caroni 1997-2015 in the glass. I like special rum for special occasions. I also like special rum without special occasions.

Rene,

I don't have any problems with having something special everyday, but I don't have the economy to drink โ‚ฌ200+ rum all the time.

Leaving aside whether you could afford it, if you drank something special every day, it wouldn't be special anymore.ย

Have this rum fortunately bought years ago at a still reasonable price. I also do not have the economic power to afford me such rum frequently.

Rene,

Exactly, your first sentence is right on spot!

About my EH1981 I did the same, bought me 7 bottles some years ago for around 1/3 or todays price and my plan is that they will last for around 10 years more from today.

For me the thing is to find "cheap" rum that I love, which I have done, so I can treat myself with something I really like as often as I feel for it.

I have to admit my NYE rum actually was enjoyed today. After late party I had to give my pallet a few days to adjust. But today I sampled the most unique and delicious rum in years 1997 La Favorite Filibste. My first sampling in this exquisite rum they is indeed special. I had Ron Centenario Real on Christmas which was nice but this is something very different. Loved it it was great.

I spent New years Eve in the midlle of slovak mouintains.ย Snow and cold. In such conditions only one rum was not enough.ย Therefore we said adieu to the old year with:

Zafra 21 and Opthimus Oporto 25

I went round to a friend who generally drinks whisky, so took round Foursquare 2009, Rum Sixty Six and one of the new low sugar El Dorado 12, as I know she's not a fan of many rums, but thought she might enjoy these.

Like me, she thought the Foursquare was great, the Rum Sixty Six, so-so, and the ED12, an enjoyable alternative. A happy new year was had!

I had no rum for the New Year. Instead I had some Spanish brandy (Carlos I) and French armagnac (Clรฉs des Ducs VSOP), both of which I immensely enjoyed. Especially the armagnac should be quite appealing to rum drinkers. The Carlos I is, obviously, a sugared brandy aimed at easy drinking, but it still offers some interesting moments and goes well with soda water.

Had some Pusser's today and it was lovely.

Rumtrinker,

I also like Pusser's and Armagnac has some similarities with Agricole.

RU

Stefan,

yes, Pusser's is the stuff. Not sure whether I like the "normal" blue or the "Gunpowder Proof" black one better. I tend towards the blue label recently.

And I have found an old bottle of the 42% old blue label. That one I find remarkably close in its sweet-harsh woodiness to the Clรฉs des Ducs VSOP (armagnac). Which then led me to post here, even though it is not rum.

Anyway, I always seem to come back to Pusser's.

Rumtrinker,

Yeah, they are an unbeatable navy rum especially when taking the price into account.

ย I also found an old one at Rum Auctineer. The Red Label 42% which is the precursor of today's Blue Label US version.

Pussers is one of my favorite rums, especially the old 15 year with the Orange label. Ocaisionally I come across the old blend in ceramic bottles. Quite good.ย

Jimmy,

The ceramic bottles is really something extra special. Right now there is two hip flasks for sale at Catawiki.

ย I also like the old 15yo and I was lucky to find some bottles at Catawiki. So now I'm the lucky owner of four bottles.

Stephan be prepared for them to have rotten corks, almost everyone I have have gotten, including the full size, has had this problem. I got this as a set last month Rum Auctioneer. I don't think I can use Catawiki in Florida. I tried to bid on Milinarion XO before. I just think their kind of cool looking and a part of rum history.ย

Stefan Persson avatar image
Stefan Persson (PREMIUM) ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช | 510 ratings Author Replied 10 Jan '22

Jimmy,

Yes, rotten corks is a common problem with old bottlings. Had it on a bottle of an 8yo Montebello Winch bottled 2005 that I opened just some days ago.

About Catawiki you're right there's very few sellers delivering to the US.

Foglialuce,

I can understand that, cause the Clement XO in the old dropbottle is a fantastic Agricole. I've emptied one and have one unopened which I don't will open before I can get another one. ย There's also an XO in a new bottle, but I haven't tasted that one, so I can't say how it's in comparison.

I'd be curious to know what you think of the HSE 1960 from the same distillery, if it's better

Foglialuce,

There are two XO's in drop bottles, the one at your added photo and one called "Rhum Vieux XO" and I believe they are more or less the same. They both contains rum from three of the epic vintages from Clement.

About HSE vintage 1960. I haven't tasted it, but their XO contains some rum from that epic vintage and I really like their XO.
