Hey Jim,
Plantation XO is good for start. I can also recommend Pusser's Blue Label, it's the best price-quality rato rum for me. I also like the Dictador rums very much, with plenty of dessert notes, coffee and chocolate. These are excellent sippers!
The recommendation I always repeat is: if you can, go for samples before trying the full bottles. It's the shortest way of recognizing your preferences.
