I went through this in depth analysis from my spreadsheet to mathematically prove that I should just quit buying rums from Venezuela. And yes, it was proven to be right! However, I will go ahead and share with you all what I have found. For each location, I needed to have 10 or more rums that I reviewed. My own formula for finding good buys is that taste counts twice as much as price. Then I averaged these results up for each location.

The best ones in order were: St. Lucia (my runaway winner!), Guyana, Panama, Martinique, Haiti, Barbados, Louisiana, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.

The ones that did not fare so well were: Trinidad, Florida, Various Caribbean, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and St. Croix (easily my worst for 10 rums or more).

For the locations with less than 10 rums reviewed, 5 were good. They are: Columbia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, St. Kitts (all of them are flavored), and Nicaragua. The two losers in this area are St. Maarten (all flavored), and Hawaii (which scored my overall worst).

For whatever this is all worth. I can't go wrong with St. Lucia and can't do right with Hawaii.

Stefan:

I only wish the rhums from Guadeloupe were available where I live in Louisiana. I have never seen any on the shelves. I have only visited that island once, way back in May of 1989.

Without check this mathematical it seems that my opinion more or less is the same.

It's just Louisiana (never tasted any) and Dom. Rep. thats not on my list, but I had to add Guadeloupe.
